Follow The Sea – ‘Blue Joy’ [Premiere]

Häxrummet Records (home to the wonderful Star Horse and Indoor Voices), are releasing the debut full length from Follow The Sea this week. We’re celebrating with the first public stream of ‘Blue Joy’! Follow The Sea formed in 2013, and have so far released two well-received EPs. The Stockholm duo’s latest is a fuzz rock feast, mixing post-punk, lo-fi and drone. It’s a diverse listen, as evident by the ambient lead single ‘Virhe’. However, it all leads to the epic closer ‘Breeze’, a progressive rocker that runs at almost twenty minutes. Follow The Sea are brave enough to explore their Scandinavian melancholy by all means necessary! Pick up ‘Blue Joy’ from May 25 on digital and vinyl.

Magic Potion – ‘Deep Web’

Introducing Magic Potion, a slacker pop outfit from Stockholm, Sweden. Their debut single ‘Deep Web’ is all about “internet luuuv, eating pizza and feeling alone :(“. Tracked on quarter inch tape, it’s a got an analogue warmth and melted vibe that’s hard not to like! Magic Potion will deliver their debut EP later this year.

Darkly – ‘Becoming Dangerfield’

“Imagine being trapped alone in a vessel floating though space, stuck in orbit, with no way of returning to planet earth. Becoming Dangerfield is an exploration of where the mind could wander in a situation of extreme loneliness and hopelessness.” That’s the premise for Darkly‘s new album ‘Becoming Dangerfield‘, released this week. It’s the solo project of Stockholm’s Johannes Göthager (formerly of the Swedish shoegaze band Edweena). Despite the terrifying concept behind the album, I found it be a relaxing and reflective listen, full of psych-tinged pop. Take a listen to the stand out ‘In Orbit’…

Darkly – ‘Animated Space Debris’

Darkly returns with ‘Animated Space Debris’ (free download) our first listen from his third album ‘Becoming Dangerfield’ (out this August). The Swedish solo artist (Johannes Göthager) is known for his work with Edweena. Sadly the Stockholm shoegaze trio disbanded early this year following the passing of band member Magnus Thelin. However Darkly’s sound maintains the same strong vocal melodies only with a more subtle approach. Lovely work!

Star Horse – ‘Don’t Get Closer // 100 Eyes’

Star Horse have given birth to their “siamese twin single” ‘Don’t Get Closer // 100 Eyes’ (available now). It follows last year’s impressive ‘Devour‘ EP, the end of an EP trilogy. ‘Don’t Get Closer’ is a stunning dream pop track with blossoming choruses, perhaps their best work to date. It marks a new chapter for the four piece. ‘100 Eyes’ is a sedate and sparse number that shows how much Star Horse have grown since 2012’s ‘Crush‘. The natural pairing of Andreas and Maja’s vocals work really well on this one. The Stockholm shoegazers have promised more tunes in the very near future – stay tuned!
