Mumrunner – ‘Sputnik’

Mumrunner have announced their new EP ‘Gentle Slopes’ will be with us on September 9 through Soliti (digital) and Wolves & Vibrancy (vinyl)! Must say, the vinyl printed skeletons look amazing (see here). The Finnish reverb rockers also served up their latest single ‘Sputnik’, the follow up to ‘Shawshank‘. The band had this to say, “Sputnik has it’s roots in the Finnish district of Kaleva. It’s a place where half of our band members live. It’s where we rehearse, play football, make love, money and hang out. The Sputnik probe started a new era in a mankind’s history many years ago. So did moving to Kaleva for Mumrunner. And to be honest, there’s also a bit  of a soviet feeling in the neighbourhood.”

Mumrunner – ‘Shawshank’ [Premiere]

Mumrunner are back with ‘Shawshank’! It’s a pleasure to present the first public stream of the single, lifted from their forthcoming EP (coming soon from Soliti). The Finnish reverb rockers impressed with last year’s ‘Full Blossom’ EP. It featured ‘Bond’ which was praised by radio and the blogosphere, it lead to the German and Japanese release of the EP and an extensive European tour last fall.

Mumrunner explain the new single; “The soundscape of Shawshank is scaled down slightly and distortion is used more sparingly than before. The song is strongly melodic and there’s a lot of interaction between guitars. Shawshank tells a tragic tale of the way people squander their lives. Everything there is to say has been said and sung at quite an early stage, and after an oppressive standstill, the song increases instrumentally bit by bit towards its massive ending.”

‘Shawshank’ is available from May 9 from all digital outlets.

Mumrunner – ‘End’

Soliti Records are set to release Mumrunner‘s debut EP ‘Full Blossom’ on May 15 featuring the lead single ‘Bond’. The Finland-based rock act have just posted another impressive tune, ‘End’. The foursome successfully blend poppy vocal hooks with a post-hardcore/shoegaze aesthetic. Despite the dreamy vocals and half time chorus, they create a sense of urgency throughout. If ‘End’ lifts your skirt, chances are you’ll love the EP, (I’ve been lucky enough to give it a listen and there’s no filler). Side note, amazingly creepy artwork! It takes a moment to realise what you’re looking at.
