Diverting Duo – ‘Ariel/Shadows’ [Video Premiere]

Diverting-duo-Desire-cover

It’s a pleasure to present the debut stream of Diverting Duo’s new video, ‘Ariel/Shadows’. It’s lifted from the Italian duo’s third album ‘Desire’; a mix of dream pop, new wave and synth pop with an 80s/90s feel. Sara and Gianmarco are based in Cagliari (the main city on the island of Sardinia). The eerie ‘Ariel/Shadows’ black and white video was shot in Sardinia’s Sette Frattelli forest. It’s a beautiful but otherworldly creation that is at odds with their sunny, coastal homeland. The ‘Desire’ LP is available now on digital and limited vinyl from Etch Wear and Deambula Records.

Maria False – ‘Shadows’ [Premiere]

maria-false-when-artwork

French psych/gazers Maria False will release their debut album ‘When’ on May 4 via A Quick One Records. The foursome wage war on perfect pitch by bending notes to oblivion in ‘Shadows’! A de-tuned, lo-fi rocker with a warped swagger (first public stream below). Having already listened through ‘When’, I can say that Maria False don’t hold back, it’s ambitious, colourful, and as overblown as ever. It’s a big step from their 2013 EP ‘Spots And Lines In A Frame‘, less noise-rock focused and insanely trippy! Maria False is the work of Yann Le Razavet, Bernard Marie Canévet, Matthieu Richard and Yann Canévet (also of Future and Venera 4).

The KVB – 'Shadows'

Dark post punk from UK noisemakers The KVB! ‘Shadows’ churns along ominously, with guitar sounds ranging from vintage surf pop to buzzsaw distortion. The KVB could sit comfortably behind scenes of a grindhouse horror flick, all broody and nonchalant. I say that in the most loving way possible!

The KVB – ‘Shadows’

Klaus Von Barrel formed The KVB with his girlfriend Kat Day in 2010, the duo have gone on to release a debut cassette (on FLA), a 10inch (on Downwards Records) and two EPs (on Clan Destine Records).

I came across the Californian synth poppers The New Division the old fashion way. By hearing someone else play it, in a magazine shop no less. Rather than approach the hipster shop attendant and ask, I quickly shazamed it on my phone (so perhaps not so old fashioned). Either way, I was struck by the simplicity of the track ‘Starfield’ and how shamelessly it drew from Depeche Mode (in a good way).

Now songwriter John Kunkel and co have announced a new album ‘Shadows’ with the lead single ‘Opium’ which doesn’t beat around the bush in regards to subject matter. The 14 track album will be released on September 27.
