Lorelle Meets The Obsolete – ‘La Distinción’

lorelle-meets-the-obsolete-distance

Lorelle Meets The Obsolete are back with ‘La Distinción’, a prowling psych rocker that would sound perfectly at home in a Tarantino movie. They capture so much vintage analogue warmth, like there’s already dust and ash on the reel! The wailing guitar solo towards the end is the cherry on top. It’s taken from the Mexican duo’s forthcoming fourth album ‘Distance’, out September 16 via Captcha Records (US) / Sonic Cathedral (UK/EU). The album was an international affair; recorded at home in Mexico, then mixed in Chicago by Cooper Crain (Cave, Bitchin Bajas), and mastered in Melbourne by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).

Turnip King – ‘Metonymy’ / ‘Carsong’

turnip king-laika

Time to put Turnip King on your radar, I’ve been lucky enough to have a listen to their forthcoming debut album and it is brilliant! The lead single ‘Metonymy’ has been floating around for about a year now but the wait is almost over, the ‘Laika’ LP is out August 19 through Fire Talk. The New York four piece recently got picked up by NPR’s All Songs Considered and I’m sure it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

**UPDATE** The ‘Carsong’ video has just been posted (via NPR) – check that out below!

Graveface Records dished up a fantastic psych / shoegaze crossover record this month; The Stargazer LiliesDoor To The Sun’. The Pennsylvanian trio has hit their stride on their sophomore offering; it’s a dynamic and woozy collection of dreamy rockers. Lead track ‘Summer’s Gone’ is flanked by some super trippy creations that at times melt into droning mantras. Changes are, you’re already all over it. If not, indulge yourself…

Umm, is this chilled psychedelia? Jazz? Space rock? Kinda… all of those and not at all! Tuath are here to smash your preconceptions. The band hail from Donegal in the Republic of Ireland, and their video for ‘Existence Is Futile’ is successfully evading any attempt at pigeon holing. Tuath are fresh from a spot at Dublin’s Reverberation Psych Fest alongside TwinKranes, Wild Rocket and the The Cosmic Dead. If this trippy creation flips your eggs then don’t sleep on their new EP ‘Existence Is Futile’ (out this month).
