Highlands – ‘Evil’

Highlands win the hairiest album cover of the year! Tripped out beards and hippy locks, it’s gotta be good right!? Yup. The Long Beach shoegazers release their new album ‘Singularity’ on June 26 featuring the lead track ‘Railroad’. ‘Singularity’ is a natural blend of shoegaze and vintage psych rock, if you’re a fan of both, you’re in for a treat. Waves of tone, swirling instrumental breaks and mountainous reverb against understated vocal lines and swaying melodies. Good combo! Take a listen to the album cut ‘Evil’ below.

The Laurels – ‘Changing The Timeline’

Following on from the shoegaze epic ‘Tidal Wave‘, The Laurels have posted ‘Changing The Timeline’ from their forthcoming debut album ‘Plains’ (out in Australia via Rice Is Nice on July 13). This time round The Laurels deliver a strutting psych rock number complete with inebriated artwork. The vintage sound has a 70s feel that wouldn’t be out of place behind a car chase scene or exploitation flick of some sort! Another solid effort from the Sydney four piece.

Pond – 'You Broke My Cool'

If vintage psych rock flips your pancakes then checkout Pond’s new record ‘Beard, Wives, Denim’ (released last month through Spinning Top/Modular). Recorded on a farm in their hometown of Perth, Western Australia, this record is full of warm keys, screeching guitar tones and crunchy drums. The retro sounding production treats the vocals on ‘You Broke My Cool’ with a dose of bouncy slap back delay (kinda like the P.A system at your local school hall)!
