Death And Vanilla – ‘From Above’

Ever heard of square vinyl before? Well, it’s happening! I’ve received a note that Death & Vanilla are releasing their new single on square, red vinyl! The Great Pop Supplement have printed 400 copies (email ’em to secure yours – thegreatpopsupplement@hotmail.com). Death & Vanilla’s debut LP was a favourite for its brand of vintage psych pop, a worthy inclusion on the best of 2012 list.

Alex Calder – 'Suki And Me'

Captured Tracks will release Alex Calder‘s new EP ‘Time’ on March 26 with the lead single ‘Suki And Me’ (free download). This tune sounds like its swimming at the bottom of a beer keg. I’m not particularly sure that Suki would be very impressed about it… but I am! The Quebec (by way of Alberta) musician used to play drums for the little known band Makeout Videotape.

Death And Vanilla – 'Cul-De-Sac'

Prepare for some spine tingling psych pop that’s set on getting under your skin. Recommended by a regular (thanks Mitchell!) Death And Vanilla create an otherworldly atmosphere, equally vintage and spooky! The Swedish duo (Marleen Nilsson and Anders Hansson) delivered their debut self-titled album back in June. Their spacey 60s styled creations are as cinematic as it gets. Unfortunately the first two vinyl pressings are already sold out, but the digital version is available now. Meanwhile, Death And Vanilla have recently contributed a new instrumental tune called ‘Ascend & Descend’ for the book  ‘I Hear A New World: 1958–1962’ (be challenged here).

Spirit Spine – ‘Coast Is A Ghost’

There’s something Echo & The Bunnymen about this tune, its a combination of the relentless rhythm and driving vocals that dig their hooks in. Spirit Spine’s new album ‘Atlantic Downs’ was released this week featuring the psych popper ‘Coast Is A Ghost’. The solo project of Indiana’s Joseph Denney began in 2008 and led to the release of a few EP’s along with 2010’s LP ‘Jungle Bridges’. Grab a download or hear more at Bandcamp.

Peaking Lights – ‘Lo Hi’

Peaking Lights have delivered the first taste from their forthcoming album ‘Lucifer’ (due June 18 via Weird World and Jun 19 in the USA via Mexican Summer). ‘Lo Hi’ is a dubbed out psych pop jaunt! The vocals float from a thick wash of reverb before landing right up front in the mix. Contrasted with the stoner reggae feel, this is a truly unique experience from the Californian couple!

Weird Dreams – 'Little Girl'

Psych poppers Weird Dreams released their debut EP back in 2010 featuring the catchy charmer ‘Little Girl’. Next month the London four piece release their debut record ‘Choreography’ via Tough Love Records (pre-order here). Expect lazy tripped out tunes to keep you couch bound! Not sure if that sentence made much sense… but I’m going to run with it!
