Desert Stars – ‘Normal Man’

DESERT STARS - 'HABIT SHACKLES'

It’s been almost 18 months since we were introduced to Brooklyn’s Desert Stars. The dream/psych pop outfit started on the right foot with the single ‘Boys I Like / Farewell Decade’. Tomorrow Desert Stars deliver their debut album ‘Habit Shackles’ featuring the lead single ‘Past In The Trash’ and the album cut ‘Normal Man’. Front woman Janelle Best pours out the melodies with a touch of Americana. It lacks a little contrast but overall it’s a solid first offering.

SISTER CRYSTALS - 'FIRST TIME'

‘First Time’ is taken from Chicago’s Sister Crystals self-titled LP, out now via Walk-In Records / Feeltrip Records. There’s limited edition bone coloured vinyl on offer at the shop too! The male/female vocal leads switch from track to track, keeping it fresh. Overall a dynamic listen that’s part psych pop, part dream pop – stream/download here.

Washed Out – ‘It All Feels Right’

WASHED OUT - 'IT ALL FEELS RIGHT'

Take a listen to ‘It All Feels Right’ – the new tune from Georgia’s Ernest Green aka Washed Out. It’s groovy… so grab your headband and sit back. Washed Out’s new album ‘Paracosm’ is out on August 12/13 through Weird World/Sub Pop. This psych pop meets folk single is a world away from the ‘chillwave’ tag he earned with 2011’s ‘Within And Without’. Its a brilliant song but I think its fair to say that the psych explosion of 2013 continues to invade indie pop. *gingerly points Tame Impala’s way*

Toy And Natasha Khan – ‘The Bride’

TOY FEAT. NATASHA KHAN - 'THE BRIDE'

London’s Toy amazed with their psych-rock meets gaze meets kraut rocking debut album last year. Surprisingly, the five piece have taken time out to record a reworked cover of Amir Rassaie’s ‘Aroos Khanom’…. don’t even pretend you know that tune. And if you do, I’m impressed! Anyway, two amazing things happened during this time. First of all, THIS incredible instrument made its way onto tape. And secondly, Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) decided to join them on vocals. ‘The Bride’ will be released via Speedy Wunderground on limited 7inch (only 250) – pre-order. Side note, Toy are touring Australia from June 17 – dates here.

Echopark – ‘Teleportation’

ECHOPARK - 'TELEPORTATION'

Italian musician Antonio Elia Forte bunkered down in a room in Whitechapel (London) with a small collection of microphones to record his debut LP ‘Trees‘ (released this week through Enclaves Music). Now best known as Echopark, Antonio chose the psych pop leaning ‘Teleportation’ for the lead single. There’s a whole heap of colours on offer, from dense vocal harmonies to distorted leads, catchy indie pop numbers backed up against acoustic pieces – stream Echopark ‘Trees’ @ Soundcloud.
