The Hours – ‘Steady Glazed Eyes’

THE HOURS - 'STEADY GLAZED EYES'

Winnipeg trio The Hours meld psych pop, dream and shoegaze on their latest track ‘Steady Glazed Eyes’. Written while “staring into lava lamps and jumping on the bed”, The Hours will appeal to fans of Tashaki Miyaki, Widowspeak and Cloud Control – check out more here.

Hand Habits – ‘Be Yr Man’

HAND HABITS - 'SMALL SHIFTS'

Hand Habits is predominantly the work of New York’s Meg Duffy, who is known for her textual guitar work and dreamy psych leanings. However the group perform as a five piece, most recently gigging with Widowspeak. Later this month the band is releasing a split album with Peg (the solo project of Avi Buffalo drummer Sheridan Riley). Both are available from Eschatone Records on February 25 including the beautiful tune ‘Be Yr Man’ from Hand Habits ‘Small Shifts‘ EP.

Tashaki Miyaki – ‘Cool Runnings’

TASHAKI MIYAKI - 'COOL RUNNINGS'

Tashaki Miyaki are releasing a fresh 7inch on their own label Blonde Dog on February 25 called ‘Cool Runnings‘ <insert obligatory Jamaican bobsled gag here>. Their latest isn’t a big step away from the dreamy downbeat psych pop they’re renowned for. Nonetheless the L.A. band are consistently good, expect a full length before the year is out.

Gum – ‘Growin’ Up’

GUM - 'GROWIN' UP'

Jay Watson (of Tame Impala / Pond) unveiled another single late last year called ‘Growin’ Up’ (free download). Working under the moniker Gum, Jay has teamed up with Spinning Top Music for his debut solo album ‘Delorean Highway’. A release date is yet to be announced but I’m hoping there’s more psych pop adventures like ‘Grownin’ Up’ just around the corner.

Slow No Wake – ‘Leave The Light On’

SLOW NO WAKE - 'LEAVE THE LIGHT ON'

Here’s a really interesting release out of Ohio courtesy of Slow No Wake. ‘Leave The Light On‘ is a dreamy psych pop tune with slide guitar, a drum machine, an organ and some trippy vocals! I’m surprised this self titled LP hasn’t received more attention. Slow No Wake is the work of solo artist Adam Theron-Lee Rensch, who knows how to throw a song together and (apparently) is no slouch in the production chair either.

Temples – ‘Mesmerise’

TEMPLES - 'MESMERISE'

UK psych revivalists Temples have delivered a new single titled ‘Mesmerise’ from their debut LP ‘Sun Structures’ (out February 10 on Heavenly Recordings (UK) / February 11 on Fat Possum (US). The vintage rock approach is hard to master without sounding overtly derivative but Temples manage to pull it off and throw in some flowery melodies while they do it! ‘Sun Structures’ is another add to the 2014 album hit list.
