Sound of Ceres – ‘Hand Of Winter’

Former Candy Claws band mates Karen and Ryan Hover have announced a new project called Sound Of Ceres that includes members of The Drums and Apples In Stereo. It’s crazy to think it’s been almost three years since Candy Claws gave us their otherworldly album ‘Ceres And Calypso In The Deep Time’! Needless to say, it’s fantastic to have new music from the Colorado pair. ‘Hand Of Winter’ is grandiose, moody and cinematic. There’s big things ahead on March 4 when Sound Of Ceres deliver their debut full length ‘Nostalgia For Infinity’ through Joyful Noise Recordings. Beautiful artwork too!

Dråpe – ‘Round And Around’

drape-relax-relapse

In October Dråpe gave us their second full length ‘Relax/Relapse’ via Norwegian label Riot Factory, and recently premiered a 60s-styled video for ‘Round And Around’ (via Konbini). The quintet have evolved immensely since forming in 2010, and have faced more changes recently with the departure of Hanne (singer), and the return of Eirik (keys/guitar). I do miss the bendy days of their debut, and Hanne’s femine touch, but Dråpe’s brand of trippy psych pop is always refreshing (especially when recorded on 24 track tape)! ‘Relax/Relapse’ plays out like a sprawling daydream, and it’s catchier than ever. Check out this recent interview with Ja Ja Ja for the full low down.

Dråpe – ‘Pie In The Sky’

Drape-Pie In The Sky

Dråpe have dished up ‘Pie In The Sky’, the first track from album number two! The Norwegian quintet teased us earlier in the year with a tribute tune called ‘Together We Are Pstereo‘, but now we have an official single. ‘Pie In The Sky’ is a catchy psych poppin’ ditty that builds on the transformative ‘Canicular Days’ album of 2013. Riot Factory are releasing Dråpe’s (Drop in English) full length on October 9.

Lightning Bug – ‘Floaters’

Been busy streaming Lightning Bug‘s brilliant debut album ‘Floaters‘ this week. It came out in January and has steadily caught the ear of admirers over the past few months. ‘Luminous Veil’ isn’t a fair representation of the album, but it’s an amazing shoegazer even so! The rest of ‘Floaters’ is more in the psych pop realm but is very unique. ‘Bobby’ is just one of the other stand outs…

Dråpe – ‘Together We Are Pstereo’

Dråpe return with the new single ‘Together We Are Pstereo’! In case you were wondering, ‘Pstereo’ is not a type-o, it’s one of the biggest festivals in Norway (and was written in its honour). The five piece are currently at work on a new album, and have recently recruited Eirik (of Angelica’s Elegy) following the departure of long-termer Hanne. ‘Together We Are Pstereo’ is a sunny psych pop gem, with sunny melodies that pick up where their 2013 LP ‘Canicular Days‘ left off. Dråpe (pronounced ‘Draw-peh’), can do no wrong! Pick up the single via iTunes.

This May Death & Vanilla return with their new album ‘To Where The Wild Things Are’ featuring the lead single ‘California Owls’. Known for their incredible 60s-styled psych pop, their latest is equally hypnotic. A vintage sounding pop tune that crescendos into noise, pre-sale is on now via Fire Recordings.  The Swedes have also announced a spot at Liverpool Psych Fest this September!
