Crescendo Feat. Frankie Soto Of Surf Club – ‘Pressure’ [Premiere]

crescendo-unless-album-artwork

To celebrate the impending release of Crescendo‘s sophomore album ‘Unless’ (out February 19) we’re sharing the first public stream of the album cut ‘Pressure’! It’s an exciting collaboration with Frankie Soto (of Surf Club / formerly Craft Spells) that crosses genre lines with dream pop, jangle and shoegaze. The Los Angles trio knows how to marry noisy edges and accessible melodies, giving their gritty sound just the right amount of sugar! Case in point, the lead single ‘Repulsor’ that was featured on our 2015 “best of” comp. No doubt the dreamgazers will reach a much bigger audience this time round with support from The Line Of Best Fit, Consequence Of Sound and The Deli Mag. It’s only been a few years since Crescendo’s debut ‘Lost Thoughts’ but they’ve grown creatively and stretch their sound on ‘Unless’.

Crescendo Feat. Frankie Soto Of Surf Club – ‘Pressure’ [Premiere]

Gregory (guitarist / singer) explains, “Pressure was one of the last songs on the album to be tracked and produced. It was apparent that we all felt it (Olive, Jess, John Kunkel; Producer / The New Division), and I were feeling the universe tugging to complete the record. At that point we decided to take the energy from the pressure… and transform it into creative power. As an artist your mind will play tricks on you and say, “everyone is counting on you to write the record of the year for your genre, so you better deliver.” … we knew better, and we settled on being ourselves. You can witness our attempt in the songwriting, mix, instrumentation, and the lyrics… It was an absolute pleasure working with Frankie of Surf Club, as he is not only our friend but also has an incredible live set and releases…” Preorder Crescendo‘s ‘Unless’ on vinyl, CD or digital via We Were Never Being Boring!

Dear Tracks – ‘Soft Dreams’ [Premiere]

dear tracks-soft dreams

Dear Tracks return with the second single from their forthcoming EP ‘Soft Dreams’, available from February 26 (pre-order via Track And Field Records / Furious Hooves: mint vinyl / violet vinyl / or cassette here)! The Michigan-based quartet impressed with their debut single ‘Wildflower’ in early 2015, and assert their sound with the forthcoming EP. The title track is a little more sunny and upbeat than the lead single ‘All The Outs Are Free’. It blends lo-fi jangle pop, surf and dream pop into a loveable, swooning creation (for fans of Beach Fossils, DIIV, or Day Wave). You can catch Dear Tracks live at Savannah Stopover on March 12 (at the Graveface Records / Furious Hooves showcase). A full tour update is coming soon, so hit up deartracksband.com for more details.

Maria False – ‘Spades’ [Premiere]

It’s no secret that we’re big Maria False fans, so today I’m super excited to share a new single called ‘Spades’ from their forthcoming EP (out later this year via Beko)! ‘Spades’ is a textured mass of provocative shoegaze with loads of atmosphere and a drugged-out swagger. By the noisy mid-section I was stuck in a ‘Spades’ trance… too many decibels! The song follows last year’s ‘When’ album, which packed eight tracks of ear bleeding rock, including my personal fave ‘Blossom’. French fans can catch the four piece at Espace B on March 26 with the mighty Spectres! More from Maria False soon.

Dead Horse One – ‘Sons Of God’ [Premiere]

It’s been less than a year since Dead Horse One teamed up with Ride’s Mark Gardener to deliver their lauded long player ‘Without Love We Perish’. Today it’s a pleasure to usher in the next chapter with ‘Sons Of God’, the first song from Dead Horse One’s new album ‘Season Of Mist’ (out this October through Requiem Pour Un Twister / Dead Bees Records). This time round the French foursome are joined by another notable producer, The Fleeting Joys John Loring! ‘Season Of Mist’ delicately balances psych rock and shoegaze into hypnotic anthems, ‘Sons Of God’ is just a little taste. The band is also heading on tour this March, including a show in Rouen with LSD and the Search for God. Full details will be announced on Dead Horse One’s Facebook page in the coming days.

The Morelings – ‘No Sign’ [Video Premiere]

The Morelings present the final visual installment from their debut EP ‘No Sign’ (available now). The Philadelphia dream-pop duo have teamed up with director Bob Sweeney to create a 1940s/50s inspired video featuring layered images of vocalist/bassist Kedra Caroline and guitarist Mathew William. A fitting swan song for the EP and a reminder that 2016 holds much more for The Morelings; a debut full length produced by Jeff Zeigler (Nothing / The War On Drugs / A Sunny Day In Glasgow). More soon!

Indoor Voices – ‘Auratic’ [EP Premiere]

indoor-voices-auratic

Häxrummet Records kicks off 2016 with the eagerly awaited Indoor Voices EP ‘Auratic’, launching today (grab it here)! The Toronto shoegaze / dream pop outfit have grown from the bedroom pop experiments of Jonathan Relph into a fully-fledged four piece. To date we’ve enjoyed the debut ‘Nevers’ (2011) and Indoor Voices self-titled EP from 2012, both are unique and brilliant. So there’s high hopes for ‘Auratic’ which features guest artists Sandra Vu (Dum Dum Girls / SISU), Jimena Torres (The Great Wilderness), Alisha Erao (Alligator Indian), and Maja Thunberg (of Star Horse).

As you will hear from the EP, a lot of time and thought has gone into these five songs. Each has a very different feel and mood; from the seasick shoegaze mantra ‘See Wish’, the stripped back beauty of ‘Atomic’, the dense dream pop of ‘Indifferentiator’, the title track’s blend of ethereal synth pop and shogaze, to the woozy closer ‘Say’. This is a great release with zero filler, I just hope it isn’t so long until we get another one! For more coverage, check out Jonathan’s interview with Greg at DKFM.
