Solkyri – ‘Yes, I’m Breathing’

‘Yes, I’m Breathing’ is our first listen to Solkyri‘s second full length ‘Sad Boys Club’, out this week via Bird’s Robe! The Sydney-based four piece have been dishing out apocalyptic instrumentals for almost a decade. The experience shows on their latest, it’s a lashing of reverb-heavy post rock performed with math-rock precision! European fans can catch them on tour through Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Austria and Poland next month.

Quell – ‘Waves’

Introducing Quell and their self-titled album featuring the beautiful ambient rocker ‘Waves’. Originally a solo project, Quell is now the work of Tyler Richardson and Hakeem Hashash. There’s some really amazing tunes on this eight track release, ‘Drown’ should please Whirr fans while the latter half of the album diverts into experimental, post rock territory. It sounds like a band finding their feet but with loads of potential.

Similarity – ‘Davenport Days’

similarity-ep

Naww. ‘Davenport Days’ starts all sweet n’ dreamy, then kicks you in the teeth with a wall of slowcore guitars! It’s taken from the new four tracker by Similarity (available here). The Oklahoma trio dabble in post metal, doom and sludge (with minimal vocals). Stream the rest below (and in the meantime, wait for those guitars to hit)!

Director Adam Fuchs (Lilfuchs) has created a stunning animated video for ‘New Topia’ by This Will Destroy You. It’s a brilliant instrumental piece, the opener to their 2014 album ‘Another Language’ (which you can stream in full below). The Texas quartet are heading on tour later this month, check out the full details through their label Suicide Squeeze.

Gidge – ‘Fauna, Pt I’

Wow, I’m not sure what Gidge are doing with ‘Autumn Bells’ but it’s taking me to another headspace entirely! The album is out via Atomnation on September 23 with a range of electronica, surreal soundscapes and experimental compositions. The Swedish duo (Ludvig Stolterman and Jonatan Nilsson) echo their Nordic surrounds with a deep selection of sounds (some tracks contain up to 100 different channels). Yep, 100 – that’s a mixing challenge. Pre-sale digital or vinyl here!

Wozniak – ‘Pikes Peak’

After many months of hard work, Edinburgh foursome Wozniak have released their latest EP ‘Pikes Peak’ via Morningside Young Team Records (download). The five track release is a mix of shoegaze, post rock and psych. Lead single ‘El Maresme’ is a stormy slow burner that opens up into a sprawling noise fest! But there’s a heap of variation, my favourite being the balls-to-the-wall rocker ‘Columbo’s Car’. Stream the rest at Bandcamp or below…
