Soviet Soviet – ‘Endless Beauty’

soviet-soviet-endless-cover

‘Endless Beauty’ is a bold post-punk tune with loads of ‘verb and dark edges. The Italian trio absolutely nail it! This widescreen anthem marks the beginning of Soviet Soviet‘s sophomore album campaign. ‘Endless’ is set to land on December 2 via Felte (pre-order here). *hits repeat*

Preoccupations – ‘Degraded’

preoccupations-album-cover

Fans of stormy post punk should mark September 16 in their diary because Preoccupations are on their way. ‘Degraded’ is the second single (following ‘Anxiety’) from their forthcoming LP, it’s dripping with nostalgia; the lyrical hopelessness is backed by a scratchy 80s sound that’s bound to draw some obvious comparisons. It needs more reverb *grin* other than that I’m sold! The Preoccupations self-titled album will be available from Inertia/Jagjaguwar.

DAODA – ‘Shields’

daoda-shields

DAODA is a Philly solo project (by way of New York) that continues to drip feed impressive dream pop, case in point ‘Shields’. It’s a stalking tune that reminds me a little of The Cure; sitting unevenly between new wave and post punk. DAODA (pronounced “day oh duh”) has amassed a healthy Soundcloud following over the past few years due to his quality output. No word on an official long player as yet.

Fugleflugten – ‘Aftenpragtstjerne’

AFTENPRAGTSTJERNE

Fugleflugten have unveiled their debut EP ‘Aftenpragtstjerne’, five tracks of reverb-hungry post punk. The Danish quartet sing in their native tongue, and brandish progressive, widescreen rockers with loads of presence. Fugleflugten first turned heads with the emotive lead single ‘Ensom Galakse’. Thankfully, the rest of the EP is equally striking, stream in full below…

Preoccupations – ‘Anxiety’

preoccupations-album-cover

I’ll admit I’m not fond of the video, that’s just me. The song however, is a jaw-dropper. ‘Anxiety’ is immediate, compelling and loaded with feels. It’s the first taste of the Preoccupations forthcoming LP, out September 16 through Jagjaguwar/Inertia. The Calgary band (formerly known as Viet Cong), are all over the interwebs this week, and rightly so. I really, really, hope the rest of the album is this brilliant. The video depicts a series of childhood fears, as shot in Ymir British Columbia. You may find it on repeat.

Follow The Sea – ‘Blue Joy’ [Premiere]

follow-the-sea-blue-joy

Häxrummet Records (home to the wonderful Star Horse and Indoor Voices), are releasing the debut full length from Follow The Sea this week. We’re celebrating with the first public stream of ‘Blue Joy’! Follow The Sea formed in 2013, and have so far released two well-received EPs. The Stockholm duo’s latest is a fuzz rock feast, mixing post-punk, lo-fi and drone. It’s a diverse listen, as evident by the ambient lead single ‘Virhe’. However, it all leads to the epic closer ‘Breeze’, a progressive rocker that runs at almost twenty minutes. Follow The Sea are brave enough to explore their Scandinavian melancholy by all means necessary! Pick up ‘Blue Joy’ from May 25 on digital and vinyl.
