Blouse – ‘A Feeling Like This’

BLOUSE - 'IMPERIUM'

On September 17 Captured Tracks will release the sophomore album from Blouse called ‘Imperium’ featuring their latest tune ‘A Feeling Like This’. The Portland-based trio made their debut in 2011 with a healthy dose of synths and drum machines wrapped in a dream pop haze. Things have changed, acoustic guitars and cellos are in! The more organic sound falls in line with what their label mates did with their second albums (Wild Nothing and Widowspeak for example) and that approach paid off.

Pure Bathing Culture – ‘Pendulum’

PURE BATHING CULTURE - 'PENDULUM'

Pure Bathing Culture isn’t the catchiest of band names but their latest tune ‘Pendulum’ certainly is. It’s a delicate new wave pop piece with its heart stuck in the 80s. For whatever reason, my warped brain imagined Cyndi Lauper fronting The Smiths at a school disco, playing this for the slow dance. Hmm, well that was embarrassing. Moving on… Pure Bathing Culture’s new album ‘Moon Tides’ is out this August (USA – Partisan Records / UK – Memphis Industries).

Grandparents – ‘Bitter Badlands’

Psych rocking shoegazers Grandparents have released a new EP called ‘Sugar Beach’ (pick it up here free). The seven piece are based in Portland and pride themselves on lo-fi sounds, recording their work on a Tascam 488. I remember those! ‘Sugar Beach’ follows on from last year’s six track collection ‘Don’t Move Time’. ‘Bitter Badlands’ has a rough vintage flavour and wouldn’t be out of place on a 60s surfing doco.
