Memoryhouse – ‘Soft Hate’

memoryhouse-soft hate

Toronto dream popper’s Memoryhouse independently released their new album ‘Soft Hate’ this month, and posted a full album stream on Youtube this week (as below). The duo (Evan Abeele & Denise Nouvion) haven’t completely reinvented themselves since 2012’s ‘The Slideshow Effect’ but there’s a distinct shift towards more upbeat, new wave and synth pop sounds. This keeps momentum going (even at their most dreamy)! Pick it up here.

There’s Talk – ‘In Your Hands’

there's talk-in your hands

‘In Your Hands’ is a delicate song that has the power to pause your brain for five minutes! This hazy lofi tune is new from San Francisco’s There’s Talk. The trio will deliver their second EP next year, their first “proper” band release since blossoming from Olivia Lee’s solo project. Here’s hoping the rest of the EP turns out to be as hypnotizing as this song. Love how the final few minutes close out. If you’re in the Oakland area, catch the single release show on November 20 at Starline Social Club (with Yassou and Lila Rose).

Tamaryn – ‘Last’

The August 28 release date of Tamaryn‘s new album draws closer, and we’ve got another fresh tune to digest (thanks to a premiere over at Stereogum today). ‘Last’ blends Tamaryn’s heady dream pop with an 80s pop feel, a definite trend with the new material (‘Hands All Over Me’, ‘Softcore’ and ‘Cranekiss’). It’s a clear progression from the guitar bending era of 2010’s ‘The Waves’, though I do love those songs! Grab a pre-order via Mexican Summer.

Talking Bush – ‘Overgrow’

Shelflife Records recently released a charming debut four tracker from Talking Bush. It’s the moniker of Nikita Bushmanov, a St. Petersburg native who transitions several genres. ‘Overgrow’ blends new wave and synth pop into this catchy creation! The ‘Ordinary Unusual’ EP serves as a taster for his debut album, planned for 2016.

Tamaryn – ‘Hands All Over Me’

Tamaryn is back and sounding… totally different! ‘Hands All Over Me’ is the lead single from their forthcoming full length ‘Cranekiss’ (out August 28 via Mexican Summer). The New Zealand native has assembled a new line-up for live shows and is sporting an 80s synth pop sound on the single. It’s caused a stir online. After all, it’s a big departure but apparently it’s not representative of the album. I guess we’ll find out in August, but given the brilliance of ‘The Waves’ and ‘Tender New Signs’, I’m full of faith it’ll be a marvelous record.

Moon Tapes – ‘A Little Bit Of Paris / Sleepy’

moon-tapes-a-little-bit-of-paris-artwork

Moon Tapes released their first official singles today, ‘A Little Bit Of Paris’ and ‘Sleepy’ (download). It follows the brilliant demo ‘Back In Love’, which I gushed about last November. The Amsterdam four piece craft new wave pop gems with a reverb-heavy, lo-fi charm. ‘A Little Bit Of Paris’ should sit well with fans of The Smiths, there’s also a dash of Alex Turner to the vocals. Bright days ahead!
