Everyone But Me – ‘Isn’t Far’

Everyone But Me released their debut EP this week, and it’s worth checking out. The five track collection is full of epic shoegaze anthems with loads of charm. The Ohio-based duo (Nick Bain and Jason Grady) formed in 2013, and have been polishing these tunes for the past year. Their efforts have paid off, thumbs up!

Megawave – ‘NS1’

Ohio newcomers Megawave have posted their debut four track EP featuring ‘NS1′. The four piece have a raw n’ ready sound (influenced by Dinosaur Jr, Ride and Swervedriver). It’s always refreshing to hear music that doesn’t concern itself with perfect pitch or robotic time keeping, instead the EP has loads of loveable rough edges. Plus they’ve got a band name fit for a transformer! Actually… that was Soundwave right? The one with the cassette player chest – off topic! Grab the EP here.

Doorbells – ‘Dancing With A Ghost’ [Premiere]

Treat yourself to the ambient haze of ‘Dancing With A Ghost’, the first public track from Doorbells forthcoming EP ‘Afterlife’ (available from March 4). It’s the work of Ohio native Nic Berlin, who collaborated with producer Adam Korbesmeyer for the EP. Together they recorded ‘Afterlife’ over ten days in Adam’s studio (Whiteout Audio) in Cleveland. During recording, Nic was going through a break up (always a great songwriting catalyst), he explains it was like “feeling as if you were playing hide and seek. I was writing these songs as a form of closure and didn’t want her to hear or see anything I was working on.  It was bizarre that I had a secret living in my own home, being with someone for so long and not sharing your art or music with them because it would unsettle them in some way, is daunting.” The emotional tone is evident on ‘Dancing With A Ghost’, Nic’s melodies push through the multi-layered texture of the song, somehow remaining delicate and bold at the same time. If you’re a fan of dreamy jangle pop, this is one to check out!

Slow No Wake – ‘Leave The Light On’

Here’s a really interesting release out of Ohio courtesy of Slow No Wake. ‘Leave The Light On‘ is a dreamy psych pop tune with slide guitar, a drum machine, an organ and some trippy vocals! I’m surprised this self titled LP hasn’t received more attention. Slow No Wake is the work of solo artist Adam Theron-Lee Rensch, who knows how to throw a song together and (apparently) is no slouch in the production chair either.

Mentalease – ‘Des Moines’

Spencer Harris produces noisy pop tunes under the moniker Mentalease, his newly released debut album ‘Living Dream‘ features the opener ‘Des Moines’ and closely follows the coattails of the ‘Entropy Rising’ EP. The Columbus, Ohio native favours crushing drums and loads of guitars – stream the album here.

Nights – ‘Walkaway’

Nights are a pop/rock band at heart but don’t hide their shoegaze influences on ‘Walkaway’, the opener to their new album ‘Whisper’ – available now. If you like your rock with plenty of melodic hooks then prepare to have your dress lifted! However, some folks may find it too pop leaning – decide for yourself below. This LP follows the Ohio four piece’s 2010 EP ‘A Tangle Of Arms’.
