Curelight Wounds – ‘Eye To Eye’

Brooklyn noise maker Curelight Wounds is back with a fresh single called ‘Eye To Eye’. It follows April’s ‘Silver Sand‘ EP and continues to blaze a noise rockin’ trail! ‘Eye To Eye’ layers industrial/noise rock sounds over a post punk rhythm section. While the b-side ‘Clear Enough’ is a little more relaxed, it’s a woozy psych rocker with loads of whammy bar action. Pick up the two tracker via Bandcamp from September 9.

Denver’s A Shoreline Dream return with ‘The Heart Never Recovered’ (free download) the lead single from their upcoming fourth album (as premiered by Surviving The Golden Age). It’s been three years since their last LP ‘Losing Them All To This Time’ and for their latest effort the shoegazers have explored more experimental waters, recruiting several guest musicians for the recording. By the sound of the single, they’ve also indulged their dark side! ‘The Silent Sunrise’ will be available from September 9 courtesy of Latenight Weeknight Records (pre-order).

Cloak – ‘Pushed’

cloak-profile

Introducing Cloak, a four piece band out of New York City. There’s precious little information about these newcomers, who recently posted a demo of their first song ‘Pushed’. It’s a bold rocker that crosses boundaries with electronic, noise rock and industrial. Brooklyn locals can catch their debut show at Glasslands on August 2.

Tune of the day comes courtesy of Negative Lovers and their noise rocker ‘Last Sex’! It’s taken from the forthcoming EP ‘Faster Lover’, due late July through Picture In My Ear (Chatnam Rise, Daydream Machine). The release will feature remixes by UK producer Jagz Kooner (known for his work with Primal Scream and Oasis). The Jakarta four piece are influenced by the Jesus & Mary Chain and Spacemen 3 – it’s paid off! Thumbs up.

Ceremony – ‘Birds’

John Fedowitz returns with Ceremony‘s latest EP ‘Birds’ (out May 20 via Emerald & Doreen Recordings). It follows last year’s full length ‘Distance‘ and arrives almost a decade after the band first formed in 2005. ‘Birds’ is a fuzz pop feast, full of sonic mayhem. But this time round the dark edges don’t creep in, it’s the happiest sounding Ceremony release I’ve heard. And it’s full of catchy party starters!

The familiar overdriven Ceremony sound will be welcomed by long standing fans, there’s no end to the lo-fi haze! Once again Oliver Ackermann (of A Place To Bury Strangers) jumped on board to master the release. Which is brave of him because on ‘Distance’ Oliver’s noise mangling wasn’t enough. In our interview John joked, “I had to send it back to him two times saying it’s not crazy enough! I called him saying “make it fucked up!!!”. It’s mission accomplished on ‘Birds’, it sounds well fucked up! Like the loudest band ever being blasted from a broken speaker at the back of a hall.

Lead single ‘Until Forever‘ is unrelenting, with a simple melody and punk rock rawness to it. Which would sound great live, the whole EP would. ‘Let Me In’ has a playful bass line beneath the white noise wash, even when played at low volume this one’s an ear bleeder! ‘Deep Breath’ is the most solemn moment and is more in the vein of last year’s LP. Closing track ‘It’s Not You’ is a pitchy affair, a noise rocking monster that descends into feedback and wraps up the EP. If you’re a punk or noise rock fan, ‘Birds’ will flip your eggs, no question. It’s got loads of personality and sonic madness you’re not likely to find elsewhere. It’s going to be way too abrasive for some, but that’s the point, this is built to make your ears ring!

Static Daydream – ‘Blue Tambourine Girl’

static daydream-blue tambourine girl-artwork

Static Daydream returns this month with a trio of noise rocking singles including ‘Nowhere To Hide’, ‘The Only One’ and ‘Blue Tambourine Girl’. It’s the work of Virginia-based solo artist Paul Baker, part of the Skywave alumni together with Oliver Ackermann (of A Place To Bury Strangers) and John Fedowitz (of Ceremony). ‘Blue Tambourine Girl’ is a solid slice of doom rock, with an urgency and sonic squall to propel it! Ironically enough, Static Daydream is a quite achiever. Paul continues to deliver quality songs while writing and recording on his own, head over to Bandcamp for a download. In other news, APTBS are previewing their forthcoming LP on the road and Ceremony’s new EP ‘Birds’ is out May 20 – more on that soon.
