A Place To Bury Strangers – 'I Lost You'

New York noise gods A Place To Bury Strangers are set to release their new EP ‘Onwards To The Wall’ via Dead Oceans on February 7, check out the EP opener ‘I Lost You’. The bass guitar intro is out for blood, paving the way for a stellar production. The wall of guitars hang from the ceiling over the furious mix while Oliver Ackermann’s characteristically deadpan vocals stand firm. ‘Onwards To The Wall’ sounds positively huge.

Farewell Republic – 'Wake' and 'Gliss'

On February 21, Brooklyn-based rockers Farewell Republic release their debut album ‘Burn The Boats’ featuring ‘Wake’ and ‘Gliss’. After a lengthy production process the young four piece have produced a dynamic monster that frequently indulges in elaborate instrumental breaks. The unique thing about Farewell Republic’s first single ‘Wake’ is that it blends twisted shoegaze noise with earth shaking psych rock and still remains accessible, predominately due to the bold vocals of Sivan Jacobovitz. The album cut ‘Gliss’ shows a different personality altogether, its punk rock jaggedness is interrupted with frantic orchestrations breaking into ambient deep breaths. Farewell Republic’s classical influences are evident, both in song structure and the dramatic piano lines that sneak into play. Production talent helps it all work, thanks to Michael Coffman and Mastering engineer Fred Kevorkian (White Stripes, The National).

Disappears – 'Replicate'

‘Replicate’ is our first listen to Disappears third record ‘Pre Language’, available March 1 via Kranky. Drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) has now officially joined the line-up following the recent tour for ‘Guider’. Not only has the intensity been ramped up but so has the precision. Sounding leaner and clearer than ever before thanks to Sonic Youth’s Echo Canyon West Studio. Many puddles of sweat were sacrificed to make this record. ‘Replicate’ stalks about, ready to pounce before breaking into an almighty swoon of guitars. Not dissimilar to the flange meets wah sound of Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello.
