The Natural Extension Concept (The N.E.C.) – ‘Creatures Flaming’

The Natural Extension Concept (The N.E.C.) will release their new album ‘Pineapple’ via Pretty Ambitious Records and [OVE:EVO] on November 8. ‘Creatures Flaming’ is our first taste from the Atlanta-based noise pop trio. ‘Creatures Flaming’ is a thick wall of delay and reverb, your ears get caught up and cheated by the haze. Did I just hear a seagull!? No, probably not.

If Jim Morrison sung with Aussie rock legends The Church, it may sound a little like this. And perhaps make Tarantino’s next soundtrack. Hello Crystal Stilts!

Don’t all throw stones too quickly… I love Crystal Stilts ‘In Love With Oblivion’… I’m just still coming to grips with the fact that ‘Shake The Shackles’ was released in 2011, not 1971.

Fellow label mates, Veronica Falls recently produced a similar retro rocking single ‘Bad Feeling’…

Swirly drones, feedback and bent melodies married to catchy but elusive vocals… that’s Pink Playground in a crude nutshell! ‘Sunny Skies’ is one example, where pitch and composition somehow get left behind.

The Texan band are releasing an 8 track album ‘Destination Ecstasy’ which gathers together bits and pieces from previous Pink Playground EP’s and mashes them together. Available from Mexican Summer on September 27.

After salivating over the upcoming release of new material from Weekend, the rock gods have delivered! That is, the rock gods at Slumberland Records who have given fans a taste of Weekend’s new single ‘Hazel’. The post punk outfit have officially announced the ‘Red’ EP will be available on September 20! This follows Weekend’s much loved ‘Sports’ album released in 2010.

“The goal for the EP was to remove some of the haze from the first LP and be up front about all the fucked up things that were happening musically and lyrically,” says Weekend bassist/singer Shaun Durkan in a press release.

“We’ve always been interested in indulgence and restraint and we tried to push that further with these recordings,” adds guitarist Kevin Johnson. “Maybe this song doesn’t have a guitar in it, or maybe we use a synthesizer or there’s no distortion or no drums. We were pulling back to make everything a little more searing.”

Weekend – ‘Red’ EP Tracklist…

01. Sweet Sixteen
02. Hazel
03. Your Own Nothing”
04. The One You Want
05. Golfers
