Nothing – ‘Something In The Way’ (Nirvana Cover)

whatever-nevermind

It’s all over the interwebs, but in case you haven’t heard it – here’s Nothing‘s cover of Nirvana’s classic ‘Something In The Way’. And just because I like ruining surprises, there’s no big guitars in this one – just a piano and loads of haunting vibes! It’s officially released on April 18 for ‘Whatever Nevermind: A Tribute To Nirvana’s Nevermind’ (iTunes via Noisey). It coincides nicely with the new Kurt documentary ‘Montage Of Heck’ which is in UK cinemas this week, and North America next month.

Whirr – ‘Pennyroyal Tea’ (Nirvana Cover)

Robotic Empire have spent the past seven years jumping through legal hoops while compiling their tribute to Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’. This weekend it was finally released, featuring a re-imagining of the classic tracks by the late Jay Reatard, Ceremony, Circa Survive and shoegazers Whirr (among others). Whirr’s cover of the ’93 single was recorded several years ago but now it’s out there, in all its noisy glory! Pick up ‘In Utero: In Tribute’ at Bandcamp / iTunes.

Nirvana – 'Live At The Paramount' (Live In Sydney)

It’s now been twenty years since Nirvana‘s ‘Nevermind’ was released. To celebrate the milestone, Nirvana’s homecoming show after the release of ‘Nevermind’ in 1991 was screened publicly for the first time in select cinemas across Australia on September 23, 2011. Why Australia was picked for a Nirvana premiere I have no idea, but I was happy to be there!

In true keeping with teen rebellion, the cinema audience eventually decided to revolt against the candy bar, comfy cinema seating and adequate parking! This is a little snapshot of what happened…

Nirvana‘s ‘Live At The Paramount’ is a must for long time Nirvana fans. It’s simple with no frills, fancy editing or camera flares. This is Nirvana before they were burdened by expectations, hype and idolic status. It’s great to see Nirvana perform their ‘Nevermind’ classics while they were still fresh and passionate. ‘Live At The Paramount’ is available from September 30 on DVD and Blu-ray.

As you may know, Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ is being re-released in a deluxe, re-mastered, super deluxe limited, and ultra sexy version! Well, not in those words, details here.
