Solo – ‘Sympathy’

SOLO - 'SYMPATHY'

Solo (aka Solo Major) is a London-based dream pop project built around layering guitars over catchy vocal parts. With ‘Sympathy’ Solo has achieved this goal, it’s a new wave influenced tune (free download) for fans of Craft Spells, Real Estate, Wild Nothing or Beach House.

Ashrae Fax – ‘Daddystitch’

ASHRAE FAX - 'DADDYSTITCH'

Little known new wave/post punk band Ashrae Fax is having their 2003 record ‘Static Crash’ reissued this week, pick it up via Mexican Summer. You’d be forgiven for mistaking album cut ‘Daddystitch’ for an 80s classic a la Siouxsie Sioux! Expect all new material from the duo (Alex Chesney and Renee Mendoza) later this year.

Mood Rings – ‘Promise Me’

MOOD RINGS - 'PROMISE ME ETERNITY'

A mixed bag of reverby goodness is coming our way from Mood Rings. The Atlanta five piece deliver ‘VPI Harmony’ on June 25 via Mexican Summer (pre-order). Album cut ‘Promise Me Eternity’ was originally released on vinyl through Double Phantom back in 2011. Thankfully it made the cut for their debut, it sounds a little like The Smiths in an echo chamber, then flipped to half speed. Great tune.

Hints – ‘Endless Well’

HINTS - 'ENDLESS WELL'

New York’s Hints return with a new two track release titled ‘Vol. III’ featuring ‘Endless Well (free d/l) / Forced To Ask’. The quartet has been a dependable source of indie pop meets new wave since hitting us with ‘Ritual’ late last year. The tunes are tagged as ‘indie folk’ in Soundcloud, hehe – nice touch… aren’t they all at the moment!?

The Bilinda Butchers – ‘The Lovers’ Suicide’

San Francisco’s The Bilinda Butchers release their new single ‘The Lovers’ Suicide’ tomorrow (March 5) – shop @ Beko [vinyl] @ Zoom Lens [cd]. The duo are sounding very lo-fi on this new wave tune! Inspired by Lafcadio Hearn’s short story ‘A Street Singer’ which admittedly I’ve never read… or heard of. *heads to library in shame*
