Orchin – ‘If I Ever’

orchin-one-if-ever

Orchin have served up ‘If I Ever’ (the b-side to ‘One’). It’s another shimmering delight from the LA-based three piece. The group is led by Sydney expat Jeremy McLennan, who weaves intricate melodies through a mass of guitar strings and reverb. I like where Orchin is going with this one, the latter half of ‘If I Ever’ really opens up. If I could direct an 80s teen movie, this would be on the soundtrack! Download a copy here.

Orchin – ‘One’

orchin-one-if-ever

Orchin have posted their hazy new single ‘One’ (as premiered by Stereogum). It arrives on the back of the two tracker ‘Dark / Wasting Time‘, and is the flip side to ‘If I Ever’. It’s an impressive tune from the noise pop project, somehow it manages to be noisy and chill at the same time! The group is lead by Los Angeles (by way of Sydney) artist Jeremy McLennan, together with Daniel Lavezzo on guitar and Griffin Kisner on drums. ‘One’ was inspired by the Cocteau Twins and Elliott Smith, expect more music from Orchin before the year is out.

Castlebeat – ‘Rope’ / ‘Downstairs’

castlebeat-castlebeat

Josh Hwang is Castlebeat, an LA-based student and artist who is very much into the DIY aesthetic; he writes, records and produces everything himself. ‘Downstairs’ and ‘Rope’ is our first taste of Castlebeat’s debut album, which is out next week (July 22 on his own imprint Spirit Goth). I had a listen to the record this week, and it’s a really impressive mix of lo-fi bedroom pop, with loads of dreamy jangly numbers. It’s an unassuming gem of a record. Don’t miss it if you’re a fan of Beach Fossils, Alex G or Wild Nothing.

Foliage – ‘What The Future Holds’

Foliage-what the future holds

Manuel Joseph Walker (aka Foliage) is a self-confessed purveyor of “dreamy jangly surfy ‘gaze”. The San Bernardino native is only 18 years of age but has already pumped out a heap of music; including last year’s album ‘Truths‘. Foliage is fresh from a west coast tour and has delivered his latest offering ‘What The Future Holds’. It’s a bedroom pop tune that’s packed with pretty harmonies and charming, lo-fi goodness.

Cerise – ‘Smoke Screen Dreams’ [VIDEO]

ceries-shades-in-shade

Cerise has unveiled the new video ‘Smoke Screen Dreams’, the title track from her debut album (available June 24). The Los Angeles-based singer teamed up with producer Joseph Arthur and mixing engineer Matt Boynton (Bat For Lashes / MGMT). It’s a beautifully inebriated sound, one which will no doubt be compared to Hope Sandoval and Mazzy Star. Nevertheless, so far she’s mixed it up on the album cuts ‘St. Nick’ and the droney ‘Shades In Shade’. A great sounding debut so far.
