Kestrels – ‘Kestrels’

kestrels-kestrels

Kestrels have dropped their self-titled full length (via Sonic Unyon Records) and are heading on tour later this month (dates here). The trio have spent two years crafting the record following shows alongside Ringo Deathstarr, Beliefs and Greys. They feel it’s their most accomplished to date and I’m not about to disagree! The singles ‘Waiting’ and ‘No Alternative’ bolster a no-filler selection of energetic rockers, noise pop and shoegaze. Should sound great on the road. There’s still some limited gold/purple splatter vinyl available here.

Kestrels – ‘Waiting’

Kestrels return with their third album on September 30 featuring the lead single ‘No Alternative’ and their latest ‘Waiting’. I had a listen to the record this week, and I know you’ll love it! The Halifax noise pop trio is drummer Paul Brown, bassist Devin Peck and singer/guitarist Chad Peck (of We Need Secrets / Noyes Records fame). Kestrels spent two years carving out the record, as mixed by Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins / Sunny Day Real Estate). Pick up the limited gold and purple splatter vinyl through Sonic Unyon.

We Need Secrets are here to make your day! It’s the pet project of Nova Scotia’s Chad Peck (of Kestrels, Noyes Records fame) and we’re happy to present an exclusive stream of the debut album ‘Melancholy And The Archive’ – out this week. It features guest appearances by ANGO, Elliott Frazier (Ringo Deathstarr), Paul Brown (Kestrels), and Aim Low‘s Omar Husain. Shellac’s Bob Weston handled mastering duties and Elliott mixed the record.

As you’ll hear below, Chad has really worked his ass off to make this a great album. It’s a colourful collection of well conceived shoegaze with all the fuzz, reverb and noise you could hope for! Order your copy of ‘Melancholy And The Archive’ via Saint Marie Records on limited clear glitter vinyl, standard black and CD here or digital. Recommended listening!

Kestrels serve up ‘The Moon Is Shining Our Way’, a catchy noise popper and the title track from their forthcoming EP (out July 1 via Sonic Unyon/Noyes Records). Last week the Halifax, Nova Scotia natives premiered the video at Impose, check it out below! The shoegaze trio delivered their second album ‘A Ghost History’ in 2012, a mix of fuzzy rock and punk. The new EP is a precursor to Kestrels third full length, expected in 2015.
