Fait – ‘Solace’

fait-profile

Fait is on her way to Bigsound next week and she’s marking the occasion with a new single and video. ‘Solace‘ is a beautiful cinematic piece, a slow burning instrumental with a deep, deep bass line. The apocalyptic tune is a tension builder, and a reminder of how brilliant she is! For those new to the party, Fait is the work of Perth multi-instrumentalist Elise Higgins, who performs live with three members from Hyla (Rob Stephens, Mike Antonas and Darrell Sundai). Believe it or not but Fait sounds even better on stage (see dates).

Flying Saucer Attack – ‘Instrumental 7’

flying saucer attack-instrumental

Holy s**tballs Batman, Flying Saucer Attack has returned! The experimental space rockers put their stamp on the early nineties but called it a day more than a decade ago. However, the Bristol duo (David Pearce and Rachel Brook) aren’t returning in their original form, instead, David has composed fifteen instrumental pieces for the ‘Instrumentals 2015’ LP (out July 17). This is left field awesomeness for the die-hards, who should be pleased with the first taste, ‘Instrumental 7’.

Solkyri – ‘Yes, I’m Breathing’

‘Yes, I’m Breathing’ is our first listen to Solkyri‘s second full length ‘Sad Boys Club’, out this week via Bird’s Robe! The Sydney-based four piece have been dishing out apocalyptic instrumentals for almost a decade. The experience shows on their latest, it’s a lashing of reverb-heavy post rock performed with math-rock precision! European fans can catch them on tour through Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Austria and Poland next month.

Fait returns with an epic new video for ‘Slow Glow’, taken from her debut EP ‘Atmosphere’ (available now). It’s a gorgeous cinematic work from director Matsu, filmed across 500km of West Australian landscape with model Shelby Lee. It’s the second video from the Perth-based instrumentalist (Elise Higgins), and follows the equally huge clip ‘Surrender To‘. Can’t get enough!

The Virgance – ‘Hiko Shrine’

Last October we had a listen to ‘Propulsion Lab Part 1‘ by British shoegazer The Virgance. This week, the solo artist releases his second album ‘Hiko Shrine‘, an ode to instrumental drone, shoegaze and experimental noise. It’s the work of Nathan Smith, who debuted his work as The Virgance on last year’s ‘Lost Continent‘ LP. His latest is a melodic step forward whilst keeping a foot in the lo-fi waters of his debut. It’s not for the casual listener, just because there’s an absence of vocals doesn’t mean it’s background music! The Virgance is a textured, visceral experience that’s best consumed as a whole. Listening through one song doesn’t do it justice. Stream the rest below or grab a copy at Bandcamp.
