Hideous Towns – ‘Disquiet Living’ [Album Premiere]

hideous-towns-disquiet-living

We’re celebrating the impending release of Hideous Towns‘ debut album ‘Disquiet Living’ with an exclusive stream (as below)! The Melbourne dream pop champions impressed with their 2014 self-titled EP and the lead singles ‘Don’t Forget’, ‘Wake Us’ and ‘Value’. The album delivers that intangible Aussie punk attitude; its raw, take it or leave it mentality makes ‘Disquiet Living’ sound honest and immediate. There’s a blend of new wave tracks (‘Waratah’, ‘Coincidents’), post-punk/kraut rock moments (‘Glass Curtain’, ‘Don’t Forget’) and spacious jangly pop gems (‘Fantasy’, ‘Lion’).

The album was produced by Matthew Hosking, known for his work as one half of VHS Dream. Hosking has had a hand in producing several likeminded local acts including Contrast, Bloodhounds On My Trail, Lowtide, Miniatures, and Glaciers. ‘Disquiet Living’ is an album with depth and character, recommended listening. Pick it up this Friday (November 25) from Lost And Lonesome (home to Parading, Lucy Roleff, and Lowtide). Melburnians can catch the album launch at Bella Union with Contrast, Mares, Splendid, and the Icypoles on December 2 (details).

Hideous Towns – ‘Don’t Forget / Wake Us’

hideous-towns-dont-forget

Hideous Towns have dished up a beautiful double a-side with ‘Don’t Forget / Wake Us’ (via Lost And Lonesome)! The Melbourne foursome indulge in reverb and delay on the new waver ‘Don’t Forget’ and the stunning dream popper ‘Wake Us’. As the presser states, the latter “draws inspiration from Irving Stone’s Vincent Van Gogh biography Lust For Life. In the song, Alana imagines the life of Van Gogh’s prostitute girlfriend Christine following the couple’s break-up”. Everything Hideous Towns have given us has been great, can’t wait for their debut album (expected late this year).

Hideous Towns – ‘Heart Attack/Skin’

Hideous Towns have returned with a new 7inch single ‘Heart Attack/Skin‘. The Melbourne-based foursome (Alana West, Ashley Stirling, Chris MacLean and Ryan DeCoite) have an unassuming style that blends jangle and dream pop with a new wave feel. Hideous Towns delivered their self-titled EP last October, cementing themselves as one of Australia’s stand out dream pop acts. ‘Heart Attack/Skin’ is another step forward, it’s available now digitally, with vinyl shipping from Lost And Lonesome on July 16.

Hideous Towns – ‘Undone’

I’ve been giving Hideous Towns‘ self-titled EP a trashing. You’ve got to hear ‘Undone’! Amazing tune. The Melbourne foursome have been putting in work since delivering their debut single ‘Joy’ at the start of the year. Stream/download the ‘Hideous Towns EP’ here. Oh and, they still win best band bio – “Chris and Ryan are long time pals, nothing sexual, Ashley’s mother was a coworker of Ryan’s so she hooked us up with her little drummer boy, nothing sexual, Alana was recruited from the internet. Nothing sexual”.

Hideous Towns – ‘Devolution’

Melbourne’s Hideous Towns have cut their teeth playing shows alongside Lowtide, Hollow Everdaze and The Ocean Party. Now the foursome are ready to deliver their debut self-titled EP. The first public tune is ‘Devolution‘ and it’s a gem! An effortless blend of new wave, post punk and dream pop with a casual melody that sinks in deep. Locals can catch the launch show on November 22 at Boney with Contrast, Zig Zag and Bad Family (details here).

Hideous Towns – ‘Joy’

HIDEOUS TOWNS - 'JOY'

Introducing Melbourne’s Hideous Towns and their debut new wave/jangle pop single ‘Joy‘ (download). In fact, the four piece are best to introduce themselves because their bio is more amusing – “Chris and Ryan are long time pals, nothing sexual, Ashley’s mother was a coworker of Ryan’s so she hooked us up with her little drummer boy, nothing sexual, Alana was recruited from the internet. Nothing sexual.”
