Brief Candles are back with a new single called ‘Provisions’! The Milwaukee mainstays have announced a new full length is on the way, expected this Fall through Guilt Ridden Pop. ‘Provisions’ has an angular, post punk feel a la Sonic Youth. Thumbs up!

Brilliant Beast – ‘No Fate’

Guilt Ridden Pop present a stellar new split release between Brilliant Beast and Fury Things (out this week). Brilliant Beast’s ‘No Fate’ is a fuzzy shoegaze anthem, it should sit well with Ride fans. It’s backed by a unique cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Heaven’. The quartet are joined by fellow Minneapolis rockers Fury Things, contributing the unrelenting ‘Some Things’ and ‘Summer Bummer’. Stream it in full below…

Brief Candles – ‘Olympic Sleeper’

BRIEF CANDLES - 'NEWHOUSE'

On October 1 Guilt Ridden Pop will release Brief Candles ‘Newhouse’ EP featuring the opener ‘Olympic Sleeper’. The Milwaukee rock act has dedicated (and named) the release after their late friend Mike Newhouse. It follows Brief Candles third record ‘Fractured Days‘, released back in 2011. ‘Olympic Sleeper’ opens with a raw post punk feel before dropping into a well placed half time breakdown. It builds to a noisy wash, with a crash and burn conclusion that’s absolutely brilliant.

The Chambermaids – ‘Whirlpool’

The Chambermaids have just released their new single ‘Whirlpool’, the follow up to ‘China Blue’ released earlier in the year. The Minneapolis quartet echo dream pop and shoegaze greats (here’s looking at you Slowdive).  But ‘Whirlpool’ sounds like Pink Floyd let loose with Jazzmasters, a tape echo and better backing vocals! The evenly metered vocals of Neil Weir are part conversational and part sung, accompanied by Martha’s subtle harmonies. Weighing in at under three minutes, ‘Whirlpool’ finshes strong with a barrage of brilliant guitar tones.
