This Love Is Deadly – ‘Want’

Last week I posted ‘Vertigo‘ by This Love Is Deadly from their recently released second album ‘Want’. I hadn’t heard the album, just the single, and I didn’t know what to expect. Well now I have, (thanks to Bekassine Records) and wow, great album! It’s very rare these days to be unable to stream an album on release, but ‘Want’ remains elusive. Unless I’m mistaken, you won’t find it publicly streaming anywhere at present (which may change). So you’ll have to snap up the vinyl to really jump into it. But the Berlin-based shoegazers have allowed me to share a new song, the album opener ‘Certainly Not Pushed’.

The ten track collection ranges from icy cold dream pop to explosive shoegaze anthems, with bendy guitars and beautiful boy/girl vocals. ‘Certainly Not Pushed’ gives you a taste. It’s a highly creative record, there’s plenty of tangents to keep you locked in, like the unexpected drum machine break in ‘Certainly Not Pushed’, which ends in a manic flourish. The rest of ‘Want’ is just as strong, it’s intricately composed, and well suited to repeat listens.

The noise pop moments of their 2012 debut LP have been chiseled back. The melodic hooks are far less obvious but carry far more weight. It’s a mature step towards understating the obvious and focusing on the subtler elements. Of course, there’s still overt shoegaze/noise pop songs on ‘Want’, like the catchy ‘Saudade’. But as you’ll hear on ‘Vertigo’, the melodies aren’t shoved down your throat, instead there’s just a fantastic feel to it. ‘Want’ has caught me by surprise, it’s a quiet achiever that I hope you’ll hear in full. Loved it.

Seasurfer – ‘New Dawn’

seasurfer-headlights

On the heels of their debut album ‘Dive In’, Seasurfer have revamped their line-up and turn their focus to album number two. The Hamburg-based quintet have created a new Pledge Music campaign to fund the recording (show your support here). There’s loads of pledge options but all come with a download of their newly recorded ‘Headlights’ EP. Take a listen to one of the four tracks below, the cinematic ‘New Dawn’.

The History Of Colour TV – ‘Yr Arms Can Stretch’

The History Of Colour TV deliver their latest full length ‘When Shapes Of Spilt Blood Spelt Love’ this week through Saint Marie Records. The twelve song collection features the lead single ‘Split Blood‘ and the stand out album cut ‘Yr Arms Can Stretch’. Long term fans may be surprised by this one, it’s perhaps the most stripped back the Berlin band have sounded. But founder Jaike Stambach should be commended because this is their most refined offering yet. The History Of Colour TV have pushed past the industrial noise rock wall to find a much more melodic sound. Grab a copy on physical or digital.

Jaguwar – ‘I’ EP

German shoegaze outfit Jaguwar have teamed up with Pinmusik (Pretty In Noise Netlabel) to officially release their debut EP ‘I’ today (download). The Dresden-based trio formed in 2012 and first got our attention with an early demo of ‘Muffhead’. Since then they’ve released a finished video (below), self-released the EP and replaced their drummer. It’s hard to keep up! Plus they’ve played shows with the likes of Tamaryn, Yuck, Japandroids and The Megaphonic Thrift. Needless to say, ‘I’ is a sonic feast, full of break neck guitars, relentless drumming and soaring choruses. Jaguwar have come out firing and this is just the beginning!

Seasurfer – ‘Stay (Remixes)’ [Premiere]

Seasurfer are just about ready to unleash their wall of sound on the masses! Their full length ‘Dive In’ will be out in a few week’s via Saint Marie Records (pre-order). Karl Skivington (of Spotlight Kid) lent a hand with production and it sounds big! The self confessed dreampunks are fronted by Berlin’s Dorian E. and Dirk the noise maker (founder of Dark Orange). Today we have a sneak peek at the new remix single ‘Stay‘, a reverb monster with shades of coldwave and post punk.

Brace/Choir – ‘Satisfier’ [VIDEO]

BRACE/CHOIR - 'TURNING ON YOUR DOUBLE'

Berlin’s Brace/Choir call themselves ‘trancerock’. I’ve got no idea what that is but I like it! Check out their new video for ‘Satisfier’ and see if you agree. On February 21, the quartet’s new album ‘Turning On Your Double’ is out through Tapete Records.
