Jaguwar – ‘Ringthing’

J A G U W A R unleash their surprising new record ‘Ringthing‘ this week via Tapete / Norman Records (UK) / Forced Exposure (USA). The German shoegazers are known for their abrasive noise rock and crushing approach. However, this time round the trio switches up their sound with a noise-pop approach. Right from the opener (‘Lunatic’) it’s clear that Jaguwar are taking a new direction with ‘Ringthing’. It’s a more accessible offering than previous efforts; with hooky vocal lines and upbeat, positive melodies. If you’re after a shot of fresh noise pop for the new year then ‘Ringthing’ is here for you! Stream select cuts and take a look at the lead tune ‘Crystal’ below…

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream – ‘Drowning’

i-have-no-mouth-and-i-must-scream

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream or simply, No Mouth, take their name from a “dystopian science fiction short story about survivors of a nuclear war”, with influences from The Cure, Joy Division and MBV. The Berlin rock act unleash their debut full-length this month featuring ‘Drowning’. I’m hearing Sonic Youth in this dissonant gem, which you can pick up via Bandcamp on vinyl, cassette or digital.

dress-angst

German rock act Dress have delivered their second EP ‘Angst‘ following a show with Craft Spells last month. The five tracker features the spacious reverb rocker ‘For You, For Me’. The trio (Konstantin Steinhauser on vocals/bass, guitarist Tom Fischer and drummer Johannes Romer) formed in 2013 before releasing their debut EP the following year. ‘Angst’ is a polished affair, Dress add a dreamy sheen to their post punk delivery; like the wall of sound ‘Cuomo’ or the jangly ‘About The Sea’.
