Minor Victories – ‘A Hundred Ropes’

Print

We knew it was coming but we didn’t know when… now we do! Minor Victories debut self-titled album will be in our hands on June 3 via Fat Possum. The supergroup features Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), Justin Lockey (Editors) and James Lockey (Hand Held Cine Club). There’s also a few guests involved including The Twilight Sad’s James Graham. ‘A Hundred Ropes’ is our first taste (since Minor Victories posted the teaser ‘Film One’ last year). I expect it will be a very diverse record, but first impressions are positive (pre-order here).

Temples – ‘Mesmerise’

TEMPLES - 'MESMERISE'

UK psych revivalists Temples have delivered a new single titled ‘Mesmerise’ from their debut LP ‘Sun Structures’ (out February 10 on Heavenly Recordings (UK) / February 11 on Fat Possum (US). The vintage rock approach is hard to master without sounding overtly derivative but Temples manage to pull it off and throw in some flowery melodies while they do it! ‘Sun Structures’ is another add to the 2014 album hit list.

Yuck – ‘Age Of Consent’ (New Order Cover) [Live Video]

YUCK - 'GLOW AND BEHOLD'

Director Michael Lawrence has filmed Yuck performing live at RAK Studios in North West London. Take a peek at the rock act (with new guitarist Ed Hayes) covering New Order’s ‘Age Of Consent’ (originally released in 1983 on the album ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’). Further proof that Yuck has successfully transitioned following the departure of former frontman Daniel Blumberg. New album ‘Glow And Behold’ out October 1 through Fat Possum (pre-order), ‘Age Of Consent’ is the b-side to the forthcoming 7inch ‘Middle Sea’.

Frankie Rose – ‘Street Of Dreams’

FRANKIE ROSE - 'STREET OF DREAMS'

Retro synth pop from Frankie Rose, ‘Street Of Dreams’ is the second single taken from her new record ‘Herein Wild’ (following lead track ‘Sorrow’). This time round Rose has opted for a cover of The Damned, originally released on their 1985 album ‘Phantasmagoria’. Must say, I don’t miss the saxophone from the original! Pick up ‘Herein Wild’ through Fat Possum on September 24.
