Aires – ‘Contraplacado’

aires-profile

Get ready to have your hair blown back by the new experimental project Aires (out of Lisbon, Portugal). The eight minute epic ‘Contraplacado’ is enough to put the fear of God into all of us – prepare the fallout shelter folks! Aires is only a few months old, born with a view to explore drone, ambient and field recordings and then combine them with a love of noise rock and shoegaze. The self-titled debut EP (out via Enough Records) is cinematic, dark and gives MBV’s ‘Holocaust’ a run for its money! The beautiful part is, just when you think it’s getting too left field, you realize a melody has already been set up, taking you to another head space. Fans of experimental tunes can stream/download at Bandcamp.

Black Moth Super Rainbow – ‘Forever Heavy’ (Live)

BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW - 'FOREVER HEAVY' (LIVE)

Black Moth Super Rainbow have posted an almighty live version of ‘Forever Heavy’ as recorded for Sirius XMU last year. The tune was originally the opener of the Pittsburgh experimentalists 2007 album ‘Dandelion Gum’. Vocoders and breakneck guitars never sounded so good!

Shortwave Broadcaster – ‘Everything You Do Is Deja-Vu’ [Premiere]

SHORTWAVE BROADCASTER

Keith Canisius is best known for his dream pop creations and as the founder of Danish shoegazers Rumskib. This week he adds another feather to his cap, releasing an ambient, experimental EP called ‘Everything You Do Is Deja-Vu’ under the moniker Shortwave Broadcaster (available via Saint Marie Records).

Shortwave Broadcaster – ‘Everything You Do Is Deja-Vu’ [Premiere]

Keith was inspired (in name) by Milton William Cooper, a broadcaster who claimed to have seen proof of alien existence. In turn the four track release is fittingly spaced out, with meditative signals, hypnotic rhythms, reversed samples and electronic textures throughout.

However the surrealist soundscapes aren’t heavy listening, while fans of avant-garde / drone wouldn’t blink, there’s still leading melodies for more casual listeners to hook into (‘Europa’ for example).

‘Everything You Do Is Deja-Vu’ is a taster of sorts, there’s a sonic theme throughout that could be extended into more indulgent territory and longer compositions. However, there’s no details of a Shortwave Broadcaster full length as yet. In the meantime, pick up the EP at Saint Marie Records.

Feather Beds – ‘Walter’

FEATHER BEDS - 'WALTER'

A unique tune from Dublin courtesy of Feather Beds. ‘Walter‘ will be released on the forthcoming album ‘The Skeletal System’ (out September 2). The experimental solo-project has so far been compared to Liars, Sigur Rós, Four Tet and Panda Bear. Its hard to define, as soon as you get comfortable ‘Walter’ starts to trip out. Either way, this infinitely dreamy creation pricked my ears up – accompanied by a fresh video created by Greg Corcoran.
