Eros and the Eschaton – ‘The Way I Feel 2Nite’ [Premiere]

eros and the eschaton-weight of matter

It’s been three years since we went week-kneed for Eros and the Eschaton‘s brilliant ‘Heaven Inside’, taken from their debut LP ‘Home Address For Civil War’. Since 2013 the Colorado Springs duo (Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins) expanded into a five piece; adding Alex Koshak (drums), Mitch Macura (keys) and Ryan Spradlin (bass). Today I’ve got the pleasure of sharing the first public stream of ‘The Way I Feel 2Nite’, lifted from their forthcoming sophomore album ‘Weight Of Matter’. It’s a full frontal rocker with beautifully warped melodies, a head nod to 90s rock royalty a la Dinosaur Jr., Teenage Fanclub and Sonic Youth.

“To me this song is about remembering good times gone, mourning friends lost and reflecting on the impermanence of all things,” Adam says of ‘The Way I Feel 2Nite’. “It’s adapted from a poem written by my buddy and Eros And The Eschaton ghost member, James Finch.” Eros and the Eschaton haven’t painted themselves into a corner with ‘Weight Of Matter’, while their shoegaze undertones remain, they’ve expanded their sound (as in the crunchy rocker ‘Rxx‘) and plenty of mind-melting psych. ‘Weight Of Matter’ is available from August 19, pre-order here via Bar/None.

Eros and the Eschaton – ‘Cry’

bar none records sampler

New Jersey’s Bar/None Records have posted their free Summer Sampler (download) which includes an exclusive song by Eros and the Eschaton. It’s a cover of the classic ‘Cry’ which was popularized by Lynn Anderson (originally from the 50s). Eros and the Eschaton have put their dark and dreamy stamp on it! The husband and wife duo (Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins) released their much loved debut LP ‘Home Address For Civil War‘ last August.

Eros And The Eschaton – ‘Home Address For Civil War’

EROS AND THE ESCHATON - 'HOME ADDRESS FOR CIVIL WAR'

The debut album from Eros And The Eschaton ‘Home Address For Civil War’ is out today via Bar/None. The husband and wife duo (Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins) produce a diverse mix of rock and pop songs with a shoegaze sheen, definitely one to check out if you’re a Yo La Tengo fan. Having said that, don’t expect a straight shoegaze/noise pop album.

Eros and the Eschaton – ‘Heaven Inside’

Lead track ‘Heaven Inside‘ remains a stand out, which was followed by the second single ‘Don’t Look So Sad‘. Album cut ‘Terence McKenna’ is an explosive rocker that hints at the band’s inspiration. The late Terence McKenna became a reknowned figure in counterculture for his work with psychedelics (an author, lecturer and modern day shaman of sorts). You can take a listen to Terence speaking about the meaning of Eros And The Eschaton via Youtube.

But back to the music, ‘Home Address For Civil War’ is great debut (album stream via Prefix). It’s an album that explores all sorts of territory as the North Carolina pair find their feet. Now that Eros And The Eschaton are established, it’ll be really interesting to see where they head next. Pick up the album via Bar/None.

Eros And The Eschaton – ‘Don’t.Look.So.Sad’

EROS AND THE ESCHATON - 'DON'T.LOOK.SO.SAD'

Husband and wife duo Eros And The Eschaton (Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins) deliver their second single ‘Don’t.Look.So.Sad’ from the forthcoming album ‘Home Address For Civil War’ – out via Bar/None on August 13. This follows the shoegazey lead track ‘Heaven Inside’ which we heard a few weeks back. While the North Carolina-based band is influenced in part by Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine, don’t expect a strict shoegaze record. I’ve recently had the pleasure of listening to the whole album through and I can say there’s a mixed bag of goodness on its way! From dreamy pop moments to crunching rock with abstractions in between – ‘Don’t.Look.So.Sad’ is a great microcosm of what’s to come.

Eros And The Eschaton – ‘Heaven Inside’

EROS AND THE ESCHATON - 'HEAVEN INSIDE'

I would’ve been pissed off if this week had passed without discovering this song! ‘Heaven Inside’ (which premiered at COS) is the work of North Carolina’s Eros And The Eschaton. The duo (Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins) also happen to be husband and wife, here’s hoping their forthcoming album title ‘Home Address For Civil War’ isn’t a relationship reflection! It’ll be available from August 18 via Bar/None (shop). This swooning shoegazer is appropriately reverb indulgent, giving it a spacious, widescreen sound that has me counting the days.
