Shoegaze And Dream Pop Songs Of 2013

SHOEGAZE AND DREAM POP SONGS OF 2013

2013 started strong with My Bloody Valentine’s ‘MBV’ (still astonished) and it hasn’t stopped. Here’s a playlist of my personal faves (shoegaze, dream pop, psych and everything in between). All of these tunes have been posted on SBWR over the past six months, some are from forthcoming albums, some are out already. With so many must listens I hope you find something that flips your eggs i.e. Grouper, Whirr, Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, Weekend or Implodes. Plus a handful of fresh Aussie acts including Flyying Colours, Kigo, High Highs and Archdukes that you may have overlooked. And for those tunes missing… please click through and add a comment. Thanks.

Skinny Dream – ‘Alloa’

SKINNY DREAM - 'ALLOA'

Last month we got our first dose of Skinny Dream with their single ‘Crush’, now the British shoegazers have followed it up with ‘Alloa’. This time the lads get a little more dreamy – keep an ear out for their debut EP ‘Crushing’ expected next month.

Jorge Elbrecht Feat. Tamaryn – ‘1/4 Circle Black’

JORGE ELBRECHT FEAT. TAMARYN - '1/4 CIRCLE BLACK'

Hope everyone had a super Record Store Day… sadly this RSD release passed me by whilst crate digging. Producer Jorge Elbrecht (of Violens) collaborated with Tamaryn for a cover of Turning Shrines 1985 tune ‘1/4 Circle Black’ – reissued on vinyl by Mexican Summer!

Faunts – 'Place I've Found'

As heard on Dream Over last weekend, here’s a stunning cut from Faunts debut album ‘High Expectations/Low Results’. The Alberta five piece recorded the album in the early noughties before re-releasing it on Friendly Fire Recordings in 2005. A dream pop lullaby without the post rock meltdown.

Astronauts, etc. – 'You Can Yell'

Berkeley music student Anthony Ferraro (aka Astronauts, etc) was pursuing a career as a classical pianist until arthritis got in the way. In lieu, we have the debut EP ‘Supermelodic Pulp’ featuring ‘You Can Yell’. This ambient gem has received more than 40,000 plays on Soundcloud in little more than a week! Pick up the EP at iTunes or Bandcamp.
