Brazil’s Renato Malizia (of ‘The Blog That Celebrates Itself‘) continually works his butt off interviewing all manner of fantastic noise makers for his site (most recently Dråpe). But today, he’s also posted a fun filled tribute to Ride featuring 24 bands covering the classics! ‘Leave Them All Behind’ kicks off with a collaboration between Oliver Ackermann (of A Place To Bury Strangers) and Ceremony! Ceremony’s ‘Distance’ Now On Limited Vinyl

Ceremony‘s much loved album ‘Distance’ (released back in 2013 by Moon Sounds) has been given the vinyl treatment – better late than never! Already at cult status among noise rock fans, the album marked Ceremony’s transition to being the solo project of John Fedowitz. Regular readers know all about it, but for those that don’t, John was a former member of Skywave, A Virginia rock trio with Oliver Ackermann (A Place To Bury Strangers) and Paul Baker (Static Daydream). The lo-fi chaos of ‘Distance’ sounds just as great as you can imagine on wax! Ceremony’s ‘Distance’ is available now on limited blue vinyl through Blue Aurora Audio.

Ceremony – ‘I Wanna Play’

John Fedowitz of Ceremony has just posted a bonus cut from the ‘Distance’ LP called ‘I Wanna Play’! The Fredericksburg noise rocker (and former Skywave member) originally released the album last year via Moon Sounds Records. Ceremony has since followed it up with the ‘Birds‘ EP. Often bonus tracks aren’t worth your minutes but ‘I Wanna Play’ is solid, once again John pushes every boundary our eardrums can handle!

Ceremony – ‘Birds’

John Fedowitz returns with Ceremony‘s latest EP ‘Birds’ (out May 20 via Emerald & Doreen Recordings). It follows last year’s full length ‘Distance‘ and arrives almost a decade after the band first formed in 2005. ‘Birds’ is a fuzz pop feast, full of sonic mayhem. But this time round the dark edges don’t creep in, it’s the happiest sounding Ceremony release I’ve heard. And it’s full of catchy party starters!

The familiar overdriven Ceremony sound will be welcomed by long standing fans, there’s no end to the lo-fi haze! Once again Oliver Ackermann (of A Place To Bury Strangers) jumped on board to master the release. Which is brave of him because on ‘Distance’ Oliver’s noise mangling wasn’t enough. In our interview John joked, “I had to send it back to him two times saying it’s not crazy enough! I called him saying “make it fucked up!!!”. It’s mission accomplished on ‘Birds’, it sounds well fucked up! Like the loudest band ever being blasted from a broken speaker at the back of a hall.

Lead single ‘Until Forever‘ is unrelenting, with a simple melody and punk rock rawness to it. Which would sound great live, the whole EP would. ‘Let Me In’ has a playful bass line beneath the white noise wash, even when played at low volume this one’s an ear bleeder! ‘Deep Breath’ is the most solemn moment and is more in the vein of last year’s LP. Closing track ‘It’s Not You’ is a pitchy affair, a noise rocking monster that descends into feedback and wraps up the EP. If you’re a punk or noise rock fan, ‘Birds’ will flip your eggs, no question. It’s got loads of personality and sonic madness you’re not likely to find elsewhere. It’s going to be way too abrasive for some, but that’s the point, this is built to make your ears ring!

Ceremony – ‘Until Forever’

Just in – the latest single from Ceremony titled ‘Until Forever‘, taken from the forthcoming five track EP ‘Birds’ (out this May through Emerald & Doreen Records)! Ceremony is the solo act of Fredericksburg’s John Fedowitz who released his last album ‘Distance’ in December, regular readers may remember our chat. Once again John has teamed up with his former Skywave bandmate Oliver Ackermann (of A Place To Bury Strangers) to help out with mastering duties. ‘Until Forever’ is an uncompromising reverb rocker with a 60s pop melody, one of Ceremony’s more catchy creations!

Static Daydream – ‘Control’

Static Daydream is the work of Paul Baker, a former member of Ceremony (with John Fedowitz) until his departure in late 2012. The project also features the vocals of Paul’s partner Jamie Casey. Over the past month Static Daydream has posted some ear ripping tunes on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Case in point – this huge track called ‘Control’ (download).
