Traces new EP landed this month featuring dense layers of swooning rock and melodic shoegaze. The Montreal trio (Richard, Kerri and Patrick), first got our attention with last year’s self-titled EP and their latest is another solid listen. ‘Imaginary Life’ delivers catchy hooks that aren’t over-baked and guy/girl vocals with plenty of variety. Preoccupations – ‘Anxiety’

I’ll admit I’m not fond of the video, that’s just me. The song however, is a jaw-dropper. ‘Anxiety’ is immediate, compelling and loaded with feels. It’s the first taste of the Preoccupations forthcoming LP, out September 16 through Jagjaguwar/Inertia. The Calgary band (formerly known as Viet Cong), are all over the interwebs this week, and rightly so. I really, really, hope the rest of the album is this brilliant. The video depicts a series of childhood fears, as shot in Ymir British Columbia. You may find it on repeat.
