Boards Of Canada – ‘Reach For The Dead’

Posting the new Boards Of Canada seems kinda pointless because, well, its already all over the interwebs, but… it is Boards Of Canada so – here we go! The Scottish duo have teased us for weeks with cryptic clues (or more accurately – clever marketing) surrounding their forthcoming album ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’ (out June 10 via Warp). Now we can submerge our ears in the dark and cinematic first single ‘Reach For The Dead’! Pre-orders available here.

Just when I thought it was safe to turn off the computer, Oliver Tank‘s ‘Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion’ taps me on the shoulder and I’m back. Fans of James Blake, Boards Of Canada or Jamie xx will lap this up on first listen. Promise.

It’s a slick and simple production making good use of the contrast between warm strings and an electronic drum pattern. Oliver Tank has even dared to apply the often misused vocoder to his vocals, it didn’t work out so well for Kanye but in this instance it’s just the right amount. The song title is also fitting, it ebbs and flows like a sci-fi lullaby!

So who is Oliver Tank? Oliver is a Sydney-based producer who is just about to drop his debut EP. And he’s only 21 years old! ‘Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion’ will feature on the EP along with a bunch of new songs via Australian imprint Yes, Please Records on October 24.

Sydney locals who tune into FBI Radio may’ve heard Oliver Tank recently as he took out the Northern Lights competition and will be heading to Reykjavik next month to perform at the Iceland Airwaves Festival – and deservedly so! In the meantime, Oliver is offering this track as a free download here. (right click, save link as)
