4AD To Reissue Cocteau Twins In High Def!

cocteau twins-heaven or las vegas-artwork

For the first time since the original pressing, 4AD are re-issuing Cocteau Twins 1990 classic ‘Heaven Or Las Vegas‘ and 1988’s ‘Blue Bell Knoll‘ on heavyweight vinyl from new high fidelity masters. *does a Scottish jig* There will also be high definition audio (96/24) downloads on offer, as announced today. For non audio nerds, that’s better quality than your current CD copies. However, I doubt the increased fidelity will make picking out Elizabeth Fraser’s lyrics any easier! Pre-orders are already available here and here. The reissues will be on shelves from July 14.

Deerhunter – ‘Monomania’

DEERHUNTER - 'MONOMANIA'

Deerhunter have unveiled the raucous title track to their new album ‘Monomania‘, out May 7 through 4AD (see Jimmy Fallon live performance). And its a loud one, kinda like Marc Boland throwing a tantrum on a pedal board. Well, not really… but its an exciting listen. It just gets increasingly more impulsive and out of control. Gotta love rock n’ roll spaz attacks! That’s my thought for the day. Leading man Bradford Cox has said the record is more avante garde, guess we’ll find out next month! *counts the days*

Twin Shadow – ‘Five Seconds’

Twin Shadow‘s full length ‘Forget’ was one of the most applauded debuts of 2010. Now Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr. has announced the follow up ‘Confess‘, due July 10 on 4AD (July 9 UK). The lead single ‘Five Seconds’ is arguably the most typed about tune of the week. As you’ll see in the artwork, George shows off his new wave biker couture! ‘Confess’ was conceived and influenced by riding across hometown Los Angeles. If you’re willing to give up your email address, you can download ‘Five Seconds’ free below.

The Big Pink – 'Too Young To Love'

The Big Pink‘s second record ‘Future This’ will hit shelves on January 16 (US 17) via 4AD. Regardless of what you think about their latest single ‘Stay Gold’, their debut full length ‘A Brief History Of Love’ had some classics, namely ‘Too Young To Love’.

Atlas Sound – 'Amplifiers'

Bradford Cox (of Deerhunter) is releasing his third solo album as Atlas Sound, titled ‘Parallax‘ which will be available via 4AD on November 7. I must admit, the previous album cuts made public haven’t grabbed me as much as I’d like. But ‘Amplifiers’ has a simple playfulness and reminds me a little of Thurston Moore. Perhaps that’s just me!?

Twin Shadow – 'Changes'

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Twin Shadow has released a new single, ‘Changes’ which is actually a re-imagined cover of Baggare’s ‘Circus Is Gone’. I hadn’t heard of Baggare before this and to be honest, Twin Shadow’s cover isn’t making me more interested.

Based on Twin Shadow’s amazing debut album ‘Forget’, I’m still looking forward to the follow up, due early next year. You can download Twin Shadow’s ‘Changes’ for free via their website here.

Blouse – ‘Videotapes’

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

There’s also new music from Portland’s Blouse who are set to deliver their debut album on November 1 via Captured Tracks. Their latest ‘Videotapes’ is 80s drenched and doesn’t lift my skirt like their first singles… but it may lift yours, who knows!? Listen above, for more visit Blouse @ Bandcamp.
