Tearjerker – ‘So Dead’ And ‘Dark’ Monday 21 November, 2011
Toronto’s Tearjerker have just released their third LP ‘Rare’ featuring the lead single ‘So Dead’. The three-piece describe themselves as playing music “that has been described by various people as indie rock, shoegaze, chillwave, glo-fi/lo-fi and other subgenres that Tearjerker hadn’t really heard of before.”
Tearjerker delivered their debut LP ‘Slouching’ in 2009, followed by a steady stream of releases including their last album ‘Strangers’. The record was well praised on the blogosphere when it was released this time last year (free download here). More recently, they recorded a brilliant cover of My Bloody Valentine (listen). In other words, these guys have been working hard!
‘Rare’ has plenty of fuzzy guitars, distant vocals and swirling atmospherics but there are also strong melodies to hook you in. This isn’t just noise for the sake of it, the songs are strong and there’s enough variation to keep it interesting. Clearly all the effort has paid off. Tearjerker deserve their spoils, so be fair when naming your price for the download.
