Weekend’s long lusted for ‘Red’ EP was released this week. The Californian post-punk outfit scored big on the blogosphere with the ‘Red’ EP’s lead track ‘Hazel’. It’s a winner!

But there are more tunes to dig into. Between the dark and distant ‘Your Own Nothing’ and the closer ‘Golfers’, lies a bright and shiny gem called ‘The One You Want’. It’s kinda like Hazel’s little brother. It drones and drives away as the melody breaks from moody to just plain rock n’ roll!

The ‘Red’ EP is a snapshot of a band transforming from a dirty obscured beast into a cleaner, more lean animal. Note that this is not a main meal at five tracks, plus there are a few weak moments. However, if you loved Weekend’s ‘Sports’ then the ‘Red’ EP will keep you satisfied before another full length comes along next year.
