The release of pacificUV’s third record ‘Weekends’ is just around the corner, available through Mazarine Records on January 31. The Athens, Georgia band made their debut a decade ago crafting a sound built from shoegaze, dream pop and post rock influences. pacificUV’s spaced out rock has taken a melodic twist for the singles ‘Funny Girl’ and ‘Ballerina’ but there’s plenty of surprises, including guest talent (John Fernandez of Olivia Tremor Control and B.P. Helium of Montreal). One of my favourite tracks on ‘Weekends’ is the ambient ballad ‘Baby Blue’. The opening atmospherics blur into a 60’s styled melody which slowly drifts into a cavern of noise and feedback, eventually losing control. It’s the most frustrated lullaby you’re likely to hear.
