Candy Claws – ‘New Forest (Five Heads Of The Sun)’ jimmy 25/06/2013 dreampop Brooklyn imprint Two Syllable Records releases Candy Claws’ fourth album ‘Ceres & Calypso In The Deep Time’ today (get the vinyl / digital or stream it here). The carnival-like dream pop of Ryan Hover and Kay Bertholf mixes sugary vocals with hushed tones on album cut ‘New Forest (Five Heads of the Sun)’. Pitchfork’s Ian Cohen has coined it, “the first legitimately happy shoegaze record” (debatable, yes). However it is a collision of ideas that results in a thickly textured sound that twists about, leaving you guessing what will come next. I suppose that’s the magic of it. Perhaps not a break out record for Candy Claws but one that tripped-out dream pop fans will cherish.
