We knew Beach House‘s new album ‘Depression Cherry’ was on the way, but we had no idea it would sound like this! ‘Sparks’ was posted online last week and it’s a jaw dropper. Despite ballooning in popularity since 2010’s ‘Teen Dream’, the Baltimore dream poppers don’t compromise on ‘Sparks’. The opening minute indulges in shoegazey textures before hitting the verse with dissonant keys behind the gorgeous vocals. They could’ve made it sound much prettier, and more accessible. I’m glad they didn’t, what’s left is an intricate extension of their earlier work. Very exciting indeed. ‘Depression Cherry’ is out this August via Sub Pop (pre-order).
