Kuroma – ‘A Day With No Disaster’ / ‘Perfect Girl’

Hank Sullivant’s Kuroma will deliver their new album ‘The Dark Horse Rides Again’ on October 14 via Votiv Music. The New York-based foursome craft psych pop gems with sunny 60s-styled melodies. This week the band revealed the fantastic ‘A Day With No Disaster’ and ‘Perfect Girl’. Since their 2007 debut, Kuroma have toured alongside Tame Impala, The Whigs and Jarvis Cocker.

Mute Swan – ‘Just Like Weeds’

‘Just Like Weeds’ heads off the jangly psych oddity that is Mute Swan‘s ‘Ultraviolet’ EP (out September 30). The foursome have emerged from a garage in Tucson’s west side with five bold new songs. Mute Swan have already been praised by The Fader and Impose, hear more at Bandcamp.

Dead Gaze – ‘Wait For Nothing’

dead gaze-easy travels

Dead Gaze has returned! The acid-drenched creations of Mississippi’s R. Cole Furlow are sounding as warped as ever. ‘Wait For Nothing’ is a ripping cut from his latest full length ‘Easy Travels’ (out this week through Ernest Jenning Record Co). It follows the psych leaning lead single ‘Constantly Happy’, and heads an album of eclectic gems. Dead Gaze as always, doesn’t disappoint.

The Laurels – ‘Reentry’

The Laurels return with a warbling, space rocking, acid tinged oddity called ‘Reentry’! Since releasing their debut album ‘Plains’ in 2012, the Sydney-based foursome “have not spent the past four years sitting in their lounge room punching cones…” *cough* …instead they’ve kept busy writing and recording their second LP. The Laurels have also recruited Jasper Fenton in the wake of Kate Wilson’s departure. ‘Reentry’ picks from their shoegaze/psych origins but it’s a much more eclectic and adventurous sound than we heard on ‘Plains’, which is no doubt a good thing! ‘Sonicology’ is out October 14 via Rice Is Nice (pre-order). Side note, if you’ve never heard their ‘Mesozoic’ EP (jump on that here)!

Lorelle Meets The Obsolete – ‘La Distinción’

Lorelle Meets The Obsolete are back with ‘La Distinción’, a prowling psych rocker that would sound perfectly at home in a Tarantino movie. They capture so much vintage analogue warmth, like there’s already dust and ash on the reel! The wailing guitar solo towards the end is the cherry on top. It’s taken from the Mexican duo’s forthcoming fourth album ‘Distance’, out September 16 via Captcha Records (US) / Sonic Cathedral (UK/EU). The album was an international affair; recorded at home in Mexico, then mixed in Chicago by Cooper Crain (Cave, Bitchin Bajas), and mastered in Melbourne by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).
