Slow Magic – ‘Sorry Safari’

‘Sorry Safari’ is an interesting walk through a textured haze, very much like the summery artwork that goes along with it. There’s no vocals and no need for them. Slow Magic has thrown in a mildly Latin groove with synths flying about together with some beautiful piano samples… or are they? Somehow I think this is one producer that actually bothered showing up to his piano lessons… I tip my hat.

Head on safari (sorry, couldn’t resist) over at Slow Magic’s Bandcamp page.

Sleepmakeswaves – ‘In Limbs And Joints’

Sleepmakeswaves have released their album ‘…And So We Destroyed Everything’. It sounds great and the charts agree, already riding high on the Bandcamp download list. A huge effort from the Sydney-based four piece, who provide no nonsense post rock that sounds very expensive! The first thing that grabs me is how huge the drums sound, the snare drum on ‘In Limbs And Joints’ cuts right through the mix and has room to spare – great stuff!

Crone – ‘The Silver Hammer’

Isis fans may still be wiping at their tears after the band’s breakup… but there is some good news.  Bassist Jeff Caxide (also of Red Sparrowes) has released a new solo project called Crone.

It’s dark, scarey as hell and will get under your skin! It may not be for everyone but the five-track album ‘Endless Midnight’ is a real sonic experience.

More info via the Waylon Recordings blog here.

Solkyri – ‘Strangers’

Here’s a post rock band that hasn’t opted for a four paragraph song title – respect!

These guys hail from Sydney’s west and have released their debut EP ‘No House’ via Bandcamp. If you like it progressive and ambient, its well worth a listen. Plus their drummer is incredible (both live and on record).
