Robin Guthrie And Harold Budd – ‘White Bird’

Lakeshore Records have delivered a beautiful soundtrack to ‘White Bird In A Blizzard’, with music by Robin Guthrie (of Cocteau Twins) and Harold Budd (Brian Eno / David Sylvian). The pair have worked together previously on the ‘Mysterious Skin’ soundtrack. ‘White Bird’ illustrates the lofty ambient soundscapes you can expect. This is headspace changing music! The film is in cinemas this month and the soundtrack is available now via Lakeshore / iTunes. Side note, How To Disappear Completely also released a fantastic ambient album recently called ‘Somnia’ – full stream here.

Old Amica – ‘Joni’

Old Amica have spent Spring recording a new EP called ‘Drone & Hum’ (available from September 5). The Swedish duo grabbed a microphone and every instrument they could find, recording seven tracks of instrumental music for the release. It’s the first time the pair have recorded together in the same room (as they’re usually located on separate sides of the country). I’ve had the pleasure of previewing the EP and it’s a very special collection! ‘Joni’ is our first listen, with a video produced by Jonas Börjesson. To date, Old Amica have released three full lengths and an EP, click here to discover more.

National Screen Service – ‘Feathering’

national screen service-feathering

National Screen Service is Mick Harrison of Warkworth, England. He’s the former bass player of Prolapse, a Leicester rock act formed in the early 90s with the aim of being “the most depressing band ever”! Over the past year Mick has posted an assortment of shoegaze-inspired drone and ambient instrumental works, most recently ‘Feathering’. It’s a beautiful tune with a submerged warmth to it. It creates a calming womb-like cacophony (for lack of a better expression)! Check out more at Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Definitely deserves more listens!

Here’s a gorgeous instrumental tune from Kevin Serra aka Cloud Seeding. ‘Kaleidocycle’ marks the Brooklyn guitarist’s seventh single and it’s up for free download at Soundcloud and Bandcamp now. The intricate web that Kevin creates with his guitar work on ‘Kaleidocycle II’ makes it a serious candidate for the repeat button! Hear more of Cloud Seeding here.
