Slow Magic – ‘Sorry Safari’

‘Sorry Safari’ is an interesting walk through a textured haze, very much like the summery artwork that goes along with it. There’s no vocals and no need for them. Slow Magic has thrown in a mildly Latin groove with synths flying about together with some beautiful piano samples… or are they? Somehow I think this is one producer that actually bothered showing up to his piano lessons… I tip my hat.

Head on safari (sorry, couldn’t resist) over at Slow Magic’s Bandcamp page.

Exitmusic will give you the chills! Aleksa’s voice is frosty, hollow, disembodied… like an ice cube for your ear. Sounds horrible right? But its not, take a listen to ‘The Sea’ and tell me I’m wrong.

The Brooklyn based (yup, Brooklyn strikes again) duo of Devon Church and Aleksa Palladino are set to release their debut EP ‘From Silence’ on October 4 from Secretly Canadian records (they are offering ‘The Sea’ as a free download here & ‘The Hours’ remix is available at RCRD LBL). If you’re in the New York area you can catch them live at the Glasslands Gallery, Brooklyn on August 19.

I came across the Californian synth poppers The New Division the old fashion way. By hearing someone else play it, in a magazine shop no less. Rather than approach the hipster shop attendant and ask, I quickly shazamed it on my phone (so perhaps not so old fashioned). Either way, I was struck by the simplicity of the track ‘Starfield’ and how shamelessly it drew from Depeche Mode (in a good way).

Now songwriter John Kunkel and co have announced a new album ‘Shadows’ with the lead single ‘Opium’ which doesn’t beat around the bush in regards to subject matter. The 14 track album will be released on September 27.

Feel like taking a warm bath!? Hit play on Sun Glitters new single ‘Eventide’ featuring the talents of Niva and Charlee. The synths will lull you back and forth into a trance before long. Grab your ‘name your price’ download here.

‘Eventide’ wasn’t included on Sun Glitters album release ‘Everything Could Be Fine‘ earlier this year. The album is a great mix of electronic mastery with dubstep moments sneaking into the wash of delay and sample work. For example, the song ‘Find Your Way (See)’ which sounds like it may have been inspired after overdosing on Burial‘s work. It manages to be a little creepy and unsettling but still holds you in with the vocal samples that keep changing shape.

What’s with the French and electronic music? Maybe its just me, but they consistently deliver the most creative, genre bending tunes. It’s been three long years since the ‘Saturdays = Youth’ album and now Alexander Gonzalez aka M83 gives us ‘Midnight City’.

With decidedly creepy artwork…

A new album is on the way and apparently Anthony has been very, very busy because it’ll be a double record. ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’ is set for an October 18 release.
