Deerhunter – ‘Monomania’

DEERHUNTER - 'MONOMANIA'

Deerhunter have unveiled the raucous title track to their new album ‘Monomania‘, out May 7 through 4AD (see Jimmy Fallon live performance). And its a loud one, kinda like Marc Boland throwing a tantrum on a pedal board. Well, not really… but its an exciting listen. It just gets increasingly more impulsive and out of control. Gotta love rock n’ roll spaz attacks! That’s my thought for the day. Leading man Bradford Cox has said the record is more avante garde, guess we’ll find out next month! *counts the days*

Sky Between Leaves – ‘O.B.E’

SKY BETWEEN LEAVES - 'O.B.E'

Gorgeous new tune from London’s Sky Between Leaves, this one will put you in a new place. Hopefully a better one! ‘O.B.E’ is an instrumental swoon that tip toes genres lines, but for what its worth the most common tags that stick are krautrock and dream pop. Sky Between Leaves released their debut, self-titled single back in 2011 (vinyl here) or snap up a freebie at Soundcloud. For those of you pondering their name – I quote, “The band’s name was taken from Jarvis Cocker’s narrative of being given glasses as a child and realizing that the holes in the trees were in fact the “sky between the leaves”. That enthralling imagery translates to the band’s sound and the elicited sentiment is simple yet poignant: it’s like awakening from a feverish dream to a wildly glittery reality.”

WINTERCOATS - 'EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE IN ON SOMETHING'

Another amazing tune from Melbourne’s James Wallace aka Wintercoats. ‘Everyone Seems To Be In On Something’ marks the second single from his EP ‘Heartful’, available via Yes Please from April 17. If you missed the lead single ‘Halogen Moon’, take a listen over at Soundcloud.

Belgian Fog – ‘Wait For Help’

BELGIAN FOG - 'WAITING FOR HELP'

I’ve been meaning to post this tune for several weeks – I blame Easter and bad chicken burritos (but that’s another story)! Belgian Fog is something of a tangent for SBWR, rarely do indie pop tunes like this get much of a look in. But rarely are they this interesting either! Belgian Fog is the work of solo artist Robert Dale, who posted ‘Wait For Help’ online last month. Vocally, it reminds me a little of Gotye but otherwise I’m at a loss for close comparisons. Looking forward to hearing what comes next.

Bleeding Rainbow – ‘Shades Of Eternal Night’

BLEEDING RAINBOW - 'SHADES OF ETERNAL NIGHT'

Philadelphia’s Bleeding Rainbow (formerly Reading Rainbow) released their third record ‘Yeah Right’ via Kanine Records earlier in the year. Whilst its not their strongest release to date, it does contain this solid shoegazer called ‘Shades Of Eternal Night’. Dig in!

Lorelle Meets The Obsolete – ‘The December Riots’

LORELLE MEETS THE OBSELETE - 'THE IN-BETWEEN'

Mexican duo Lorelle Meets The Obsolete are one of the most exciting psych / dream pop acts in the world right now. Big statement but take a listen to either of their LPs and see if you disagree! ‘The December Riots‘ comes from their sophomore album ‘Corruptible Faces’ (available now through Captcha Records). Brilliant!

Red Traces – ‘Once Were’

RED TRACES - 'ONCE WERE'

Once Were‘ is our first taste of Red Traces forthcoming album, led by Los Angeles-based musician Albert Ovadia. This impeccably produced tune is due to the skills of Erix S. Laurent (otherwise known as Teepee). Drummer Jorge Balbi completes the picture, looking forward to hearing more from Red Traces soon.

Team Ghost – ‘Fireworks’

TEAM GHOST - 'FIREWORKS'

French rock outfit Team Ghost release their debut LP ‘Rituals’ in the US on April 16 through wSphère featuring the explosive album cut ‘Fireworks’! Led by Nicolas Fromageau (formerly of M83), Team Ghost have put together an album with some stand out moments, but perhaps it would’ve made a stronger EP. Decide for yourself next month.

Odonis Odonis – ‘Intelligence’

ODONIS ODONIS - 'INTELLIGENCE'

Brutal fuzz rock from Odonis Odonis‘ new EP ‘Better’, available from Buzz Records on April 16. The Toronto trio barrel themselves through their latest single ‘Intelligence’ and leave the surf rock stylings of their previous LP ‘Hollandaze’ in a dimly lit corner.
