Gathered Ghosts – 'Feels Like Nothing / Spoke To Me Plain'

Craft Spells released their debut record ‘Idle Labor’ earlier this year; its full of dreamy, poppy gems like ‘Form The Morning Heat‘. Since then the band have been busy touring except Craft Spells guitarist Javier Suarez has found time to record a solo LP between Spring and Summer shows. Javier goes by the moniker Gathered Ghosts and you can download the free 11-track album via Bandcamp now.

In Javier’s words, “Gathered Ghosts was done in my parent’s basement in Pullman, Washington using guitars, bass, Logic software, my girlfriend’s autoharp, an ocarina that my parent’s brought back from Argentina, piano, some micro-Korg and a couple of other things. This music is special to me so i thought I’d share it in case it may become special to someone else.”

Craft Spells recently released a new video for ‘Your Tomb’ – check it out below…

NO CEREMONY/// – 'WEARME'

While we are no closer to figuring out exactly who is behind No Cermony, we do have a new single titled ‘Wear Me’. The Manchester electronic outfit first hit the googlesphere back in August releasing ‘Hurtlove’. Then a few week’s ago No Ceremony dropped another taster in the shape of a Patrick Wolf remix for ‘Time Of My Life’.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Just like ‘Hurtlove’, No Ceremony are offering up ‘Wear Me’ as a free download from their official site, here. ‘Wear Me’ is a progressive piece that rises from atmospheric piano chords into ambient dance territory. Just like No Ceremony‘s choice of artwork and design, there’s an apocalyptic feel to both the song and the creepy video (just released today).

No Ceremony favour effect heavy vocals on ‘Wear Me’ and push for a highly textured sound. Many of its parts are repeated samples that evolve and overlap before falling away into the ether. For this reason, I suspect No Ceremony is the work of a sole producer. Someone that’s a little shy in revealing his vocal chords (regardless of style).

However, for the sake of buzz, I’d just as soon make claims that No Ceremony is actually a CIA operative in hiding after uncovering a wicked government secret, forced to hide away in a studio and express himself in the only way he knows how. I could be wrong.

Pink Playground – 'Dark Bloom'

Houston’s ridiculously loud shoegaze band Pink Playground, released ‘Destination Ecstasy’ last week via Mexican Summer. The eight track album features the smokey song ‘Dark Bloom’ along with a bunch of material originally released on harder to find EPs.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

‘Dark Bloom’ has a lot going on. Guitars overlap, playing seemingly different melodies and rhythms as the vocals get pushed into the background. Harkening back to the 80s, there’s dissonant synths and lo-fi delay throughout the record. You’ll either love it or loathe it.

Pick up Pink Playground’s ‘Destination Ecstasy’ from Mexican Summer.

fthrsn – ‘Hysteria’

Fthrsn (no idea how you pronounce that!) is a Michigan-based bedroom producer known to his buddies as Macklin “Mackie” Underdown. ‘Hysteria’ is a tropical indie pop jam featured on his upcoming EP released via Speaker Snacks Records on October 5.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

fthrsn’s first release ‘Nothing’s The Matter//Colors‘ made its way to Bandcamp back in July (download here). Now ‘Hysteria’ hits us with warm lo-fi electronics, percussive rhythms and harmonies the Beach Boys would be proud of!

Visit fthrsn @ Facebook, through his blog Zen Tapes or Denver’s Speaker Snacks Records for more.
